Why would any particular type of thread bother anyone? If you don't want to read it, don't click on it. There's whole FORUMS of stuff out there that I don't click on because I'm not interested in them, I don't have any problem not clicking on a thread that I'm not interested in.

So why did you read this one? :) This is all in good fun. But, yeah, if we only had threads that were truly original, we would be down to one a day or so and those would be mainly about news stories like an accidental/negligent discharge. And, btw, there's a difference between a least favorite thread and a thread that bothers someone.

"....If you don't want to read it, don't click on it."

But...but.. the highlighted thread title is too tempting to not click on it. ;)

The best lube threads don't bother me at all. I don't read them. The others don't bother me much. The ones that bother me are the ones that draw responses that tell the OP to save $50 or $100 more and buy a S&W rather than a comparable model of Taurus. Really? Where do you find S&Ws that cheap? I am talking about new vs new or used vs used, not used vs new. Maybe I should save $100 more and buy H&K instead of Jiminez.

I considered this vs my original response (bear threads) and I find lube threads the most boring and I seldom even read them. Where as I actually love the bear threads as they're fun, predictable, but fun.

Another thread topic that always bugs me somewhat is 22 revolver threads which I am most interested in and why the "lowly 22" revolver cost as much and sometimes more than a similar centerfire.

Spot on! But, every so often, on various boards, I think of a line used by the local FM classical music station that intones, "all music was once new". We too, were once new to the shooting game and full of newbie questions, so let's indulge them to the limit of our tolerance!

as much as the "which gun should I buy" sucks, a lot of times it really is new handgunners and such that really just need some direction, or need back-up to the choices they have already decided on to know theyre not pieces of junk. so I see the value in them. I voted, if you could only own 5 guns.... I don't see the point in those at all. caliber war threads are fun to read and banter with from time to time

best lube thread, I dunno, I would have said that until that guy posted that really in depth test on lubes a couple days ago. that was totally a lube thread worth reading.

They are only overdone to us oldtimers,,,

They are only overdone to us old timers,,,
To the constant influx of new members they are new topics.

I suppose mine is the thread arguing against or for .22 as a viable defense cartridge.

Any gun is better than no gun,,,
I mean the first rule of a gunfight is have a gun.

Okay we all agree that a .45 beats a .22,,,
But if your daughter won't carry a .45,,,
Would you rather she carry nothing?

Caliber is the Joker,,,
Shot placement is king.

Do you really think you will be clear-headed in a gunfight?,,,
Actually I do because I was clear headed in the two I've been in.

I've been here for 5 years and 2 months,,,
I've read it all at one time or another.

But again I state,,,
Let these same topics arise and be discussed anew.

If not that,,,
Archive the best past threads,,,
And shut down the forums because it's all been said before.

Oh, I totally agree with that. I should have underlined that it really only irks me when it's non-beginners asking -- or, more precisely, when it's people with a good deal of experience shooting and time on the forums.

I don't begrudge beginners/novices any type of question. All of us knew exactly none of this stuff at some point.

I voted " which gun should I buy", But specifically, any poster that inquires about a deringer.

Why is it that the deringer question causes an instant assumption that you are buying it to go off to war, but if you ask about anything full auto, it is an instant assumption that you are buying a "range toy"

Seriously, if they are asking about a deringer, they probably aren't interested in any ones choice of the small autos or revolvers that ALWAYS work their way into the thread within about three posts.

Tom.

Overall, despite new products coming out constantly, this is a fairly slow moving industry - half of us still drool over the 100+ year old 1911 - so we can quickly run out of things to talk about.
Repeat threads help keep things moving along... If the subject is no longer interesting its easy enough to ignore it.
I think they keep popping up because they're never resolved, or someone looks at it a different way and thinks its worthy of another go-around.

Repeats also engage newer members... telling them "its been covered many times, go search" takes the fun out of being here.

Even though the repeats never accomplish much or result in any general concensus, they often provide some entertainment.

I don't mind the repeat threads at all unless one was done in the previous couple of days on precisely the same subject.

The 22 rimfire for self defense threads tend to bug me, but I know that new members have the same questions as I do or did and like was mentioned, it keeps the forum moving forward. If nobody posted a new thread except on a totally new topic, it would get pretty boring around here.

"I've never hunted before. What's the smallest and least powerful weapon that I could use that might kill a deer if I can land it in the brain through his nostril while his head is up?"

I'm voting with those who cited bears. I live in bear country, and I appreciate that they deserve respect and attention. Especially for those who (unlike me) live in brown and white bear territory.

But you'd think that every bear in the country was also a member of the Taliban if you counted the number of threads here that were devoted to protection from them. If bears ever figure out the internet we're screwed because they can come here to find out how to react to every imaginary threat that they could present to us.

Yeah, I only pay attention to the threads that have titles like "Need Bear Load! - Fast!!" :D
