what's your favorite "odd duck" rifle & why?

My only Semi, a Remington 742 .30-06, all my other rifles are bolt guns.

One of my first guns when I was a kid. Don't remember the make, but it had a 20G barrel and a 30-30 (I think) in O/U config. Open sights, never shot anything with it, gift from my dad. Got stolen not long after I got it. Would like to have it today.

I know its a vanilla topic but i can't sleep so indulge me as I wait on the sleep fairy to get here.-mdd

With all due respect you were wrong about this thread. Some very interesting rifles here, nicely done.

Does that make me an "odd duck"?

flapjack

if that was a break action I believe it to be a Savage model 24.

Great old gun and you can use spitzer bullets in that single shot
30-30 to improve ballistics!

J. Stevens A&T, model 44, 25-20, single shot, falling block action with iron sights last made in 1915. This rifle fed my step fathers family during the depression. His grandfather had to buy one bullet at a time when he wanted to go hunting. Not a gun I would use for deer hunting but I can vouch for it still being an accurate gun.

I have a Reminton 700 Tactical in 6.8SPC. I love it because it is a tac driver. .5MOA with hand loads I have cooked up for it when I am having a good day. I have a few different loads cooked up for general bench shooting, coyotes, and deer. The trigger is ~ 1.5lbs, full aluminum bedded stock, medium contour fluted barrel. It is heavy enough to enjoy at the range, and light enough for a great deer and coyote rifle.

It is my favorite bolt gun at the moment... and there are some very pristine old Sako's sitting next to it in the safe.;)

Shurshot I'm jealous, I've been lusting after one of those for years. My dad had one when I was a kid but he sold it or traded it at some point. His was a 1/2 mag takedown model. I remember him spending hours forming brass because he couldn't find any anywhere.

My favorite "odd duck" is this one:

A sporterized Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55. My father had it built by a local gunsmith. It was his deer rifle and now it's mine and it's probably my single most favorite rifle.

Tahoe2...I'm going to look into that and see if it is. Just remembered another that was a little odd that was stolen at the same time. An old single shot 22 with a lever that opened the action, not sure if falling block is the right description. Neat old guns...rotten crooks.
