What's your favorite Military Surplus Rifle?

Of the surplus rifles that I own (M1 Garand, M1896 Swedish Mauser, Mauser K98k)
Those I have owned (Swedish M38, Polish M44, M1898 Krag, SKS)
And those I have shot frequently (SMLE, 1909 Argentine Mauser, M1 Carbine, M1903, M1917

I would have to say that it's a tie between my Garand and the M96 Swede.
I like the swede for the accuracy, light recoil, and good looks. My father carried an M1 in Korea, so it has a bit of personal history for me, and it also has that "ping" that always puts a grin on my face:)

Oh man... It's between the Kar98 and 1891 Argentine. The Kar98 is just a nice rifle in general, accurate, good looking, surplus ammo is still around.

The 1891 Argentine, it's kinda strange. I found in in my parents basement when I was 12 years old and cleaned it up, took the rust off and cleaned all the crap out of the chamber and barrel. And after the first time I shot it I fell in love with it. 7.65x53 is kinda a pain in the ass to find but when I can for a good price, I gobble it up.

It's like you asked me to pick a favorite from amongst my children (if I in fact had any children). My favorite is the one I'm shooting at the range that day. (NOW THAT'S A REAL, COP-OUT, POLITICIAN'S ANSWER!!!):D

M1 Garand

It's gotta be my Garand. Unapologetically it says, "Hello, I'm from America. You've done bad things. I'm here to kill you.":D
At the range it makes people smile, unless they are over 75 and are invited to shoot thru a clip. I've seen old Marines with tears in their eyes after eight rounds. This is an important piece of history.

K31
I love my garand, but it is not the high precision beauty the K41 is. More like a model T.
I keep thinking about buying a new production 308 K31 from Switzerland($3000 or something to get it to the US). I bought a converted K11 and it doesn't really work. When I return to the US I may spend some time/money trying to get it working.

Of the ones I have shot or owned I would rate them this way.
1) M1 Garand
2) Swedish mauser
3) Thompson
4) Enfield
5) Nagant

Thanks for all the excellent replies.

Now I'm off to shoot my Mosin-Nagant 91-30. I can't wait to buy a Lee Enfield, Garant and German Mauser.

I just love WW II Milsurps.
