What's your favorite holster?

I really like the old Tom Threepersons type...have made our version of it for years...for Single actions, double actions, and the occasional automatic. Here's one of ours on our copy of the "Duke's" rig...with a Ruger birds head Single Six in .32 H&R. Best regards, Rodfac PS: had to hold my stomach in for the pic...my wife kept diddling around with the flash till I about turned blue in the face. Rod

Toocool...those "nemesis"...they're pocket types right?....I'm looking for something to carry a S&W 637 in a front pocket. The 637 has a hammer exposed and a bbl. length of 1-7/8". How do they work out for you in cargo pocket shorts...jeans...etc. TIA, Regards, Rodfac

...is one I made

I have never been really happy with any factory made holster I have ever bought. My favorite holster is one I crudely made to carry my Ruger Super Single Six. It meets all my needs. It is comfortable, protects the trigger and hammer. And, very importantly, holds the gun even with vigorous activity. The strap is simply a hunk of old belt riveted the back. I have worn and carried this .22 many-many hours in the field and farm for quite a few years. The concept is not new but was not available commercially so I did for myself. Oh..it also allows for quick draw when needed. It was often my snake and feral dog discourager.

I like to make my own. They aren't much to look at, but I like that i can custom fit the gun to the holster. Some guns I want to have a firmer draw. They are going to be jostled around a bit, and auto loaders are "butt heavy". Some I like a looser fit because they don't need to be concealed for their purposes. I like straps on some holsters. Some I make so form fitting that are only held in by friction fit.

One of my absolute favorites is a prototype pocket holster I made for my EDC LCR. I need to remake it for finish, but as for fit it's perfect. Breaks up the outline of the revolver, ambidextrous for either pocket, and has a built in pocket snag that makes drawing and holstering the gun super easy.

Today I'm experimenting with an IWB friction fit holster for a Tokarev clone. Pretty comfy for a steel gun.

I would suggest that one should at least try their hand at leather work. It's pretty easy if you don't have high aesthetic standards, and it can be really rewarding when you craft something that fits you like a custom glove. For about $15 worth of supplies and a hour of your time, it's a fun little project:)

Probably my favorite is my El Paso Saddlery #88 that I carry my S&W M66 in. A very close second is the Kramer Horsehide Vertical Scabbard that I carry both my S&W M28 and 629 in. It's a close call between these two as I got a screaming deal on the Kramer ($6 in a used holster bucket) but I give the nod to the El Paso because it's suede lined while the Kramer isn't. I'm also becoming rather fond of the Tagua pocket holster I carry my S&W M36 in.

I will go along with several of these.

Currently, I'm using a Smart Carry, and carrying my Kahr P45 in it.

I also very much like the UBG Striker, also for the Kahr P45.

When it's 1911 time, I like the Alessi Watch Six so much that my VMII sits in the safe gathering dust.

When I carry a K-frame revolver, the Hoffner's Miurage gets the nod. I also have one for the N-frame but haven't gotten to try it out extensively.

For pocket carry (Kahr PM9) I like the DeSantis Nemesis (mini-Glock size, also works for j-frames).

For an LCP, the Robert Mika works for me.

I use Kramer Horsehide leather for all my guns ....

Sig 239's ( IWB and scabbards)
Sig 226's ( scabbard only )

1911's in 4" and 5" ( IWB and scabbards) - Wilson, Kimber, Baer, etc

S&W K frame revolvers 4" - a scabbard only.
S&W L frame revolver 6" - a scabbard only
S&W N frames 3" and 6" - scabbards only

All of them have the forward FBI tilt, which I find comfortable. I like the Kramer mag holders too.

I like pretty much all of my holsters. In the enclosed pictures are my carry guns with the holsters I use depending on mood/dress/etc.

Glock 36 w/ K&D Dakota Defender tuckable-IWB or JIT Slide OWB

Ruger Sp101 w/ Desantis scabbard, Bianchi Slide, or High-Noon Hidden Ally Tuckable IWB.

NAA Guardian .32ACP in Galco pocket holster.

I'd have to say I like the Dakota the best, but am happy with the OWB Desantis for my Sp101, too. I don't like retention, normally, but like this over the Bianchi for the 101. I don't care for the Galco Pocket, but haven't gotten around to replacing it just yet.

but the "beltster" by Bandera Gun Leather is what I have found most comfortable for carrying my Kahr P9 or my Sig P238.
I'm really intrigued by this Beltster. I may have to order one, but would have trouble deciding what gun I want it for! Maybe I'll hold off until I get a carry 1911...
Thanks for sharing, JimmyDAO!

Tucker Silent Thunder

I really like my Silent Thunder IWB from Tucker Gun Leather. The pics show it is Kydex lined in soft leather. It has a single belt clip for "grab and go" applications. I wear it from early AM to late PM and it stays in place and is very comfortable. It is on sale now for $76.

The 1911 forum had a great writeup on the Silent Thunder and several folks use it for the full sized guns. I have a Kahr PM9 it is fits it perfectly.

Though I don't get wear it that often in summer weather, one of the most comfortable shoulder rigs I have is the Glaco "Jackass" rig.

It spreads the load of a steel 1911 and two magazines out enough to make it comfortable to wear all day and then some. The holster itself is secure without being too tight.

Galco's thermoplastic Matrix series for the Glock and 1911 are inexpensive, comfortable and secure. My only complaint is they don't make a fully-enclosed version not on a paddle mount.

Most of my OWB holsters have a thumb-break strap though. That's what I'm used to and I like the extra security of the strap. Pancake style holsters from the original Roy Baker rigs to Safariland and others seem to work well for K-L-N sized revolvers.
