I am almost ready to open our store and am in the process of putting together our first order.. What I need to know is what do you guys and gals use for hunting? Whats your favorite brand, caliber, grain for deer. . Any help woudl be great.. I also put one up for critters as well..

Ruger 77 in 7X57
Typically, I shoot handloads, but Federal Premium with 140 gr Nosler is close to my loads.

I like the 25-06 rem. for deer, Its a ruger m77 mkII. I shoot remington psp 120 gr. and remington psp 100 gr. shells through it.

For deer hunting you need a few calibers to make everyone happy. I don't know if .224 caliber is legal or not so I'll leave them out.

.243 Win 95-100 grain
.270 Win 130 grain
7mm-08 140 grains
.308 and .30-06 165 grain
.30-30 150-170 grain
.300 Win Mag 180 grain

There are quite a few other deer cartridges that might be floating around out there but this should be a good start. You might consider 7mm Rem Mag, .280 Rem, .260 Rem, 6.5X55, and .257 Roberts as well.

As far as rifles go I'm happy with Marlin, Ruger, Remington, Howa, and Savage as I have experience with them all. I'm an equal opportunity employer as far as choice in firearms go. I want to try Sako, Tikka, CZ, Browining, and Blaser.

.270 150 gr Rem Corelokts mostly for me. .243 100 gr Corelokts for my wife and daughters. If you stock a few varities of the big three ( Rem, Win, and Fed) in there cheap, mid range and upper end versions. I would also carry some hornady, etc for the fancy folks LOL. Let your customers tell you what they want, they will ya know:D. Good luck

I do Savage rifles, TC makes some nice stuff too. What I have and what I dream for:

I would love a Savage 10FP in 308 for mid/long range varminting.
I have a Savage 93R17FVSS in 17 HMR for short varminting, amazing gun. That one really likes the Hornady 20 grain hollow points.
I also have a Stoeger Condor 20 ga., love that gun. That thing eats anything and everything you want it to.
My 12 gauge is a Franchi I-12, haven't shot it a whole lot...don't know what it likes.
My TC Encore does real well with Ultramax Cowboy style loads. The 45-70 w/ 405 grain will hit a pop can all day long out of that rifle.

Umm...I think that's all I have for you right now. I'll post more if I think of stuff.

Are you asking for rifle ammunition preferences or actual rifle preferences?

When I dont hand load I have shot these factory loads: .270 Wincheser Supreme 130 gr, Winchester Power Point 130 gr, Remington Corelokt 130 gr.

.308 Winchester Power Point 150 and 165grs, Winchester Supreme 168gr, Remington 168 BTHP Match 168, Remington 165bgr ballistic tip.

30-06 Winchester Power Point 165 grain

.30-06 all the way!!!

Make sure you stock all the popular cartriges, should be obvious...

I use winchester now, not to picky myself, something like accutips, just switched from remington corelocks, was let down by them last year, now I'm just using them up on paper...

165gr .308 load. Any maker, but I prefer the Remington Core-lokts and Hornady Interlocks since they are relatively inexpensive compared to the Nosler and Swift offerings out there.

I'll use that for Deer, Antelope, Black Bear or Elk in my neck of the woods... and spend a lot more time worrying about finding critters than worrying about bullet effectiveness.

Hey don't forget the hunters basic needs- beef jerky, beanie weenies, pecan twirls, water and a few cans of Copenhagen and I am all set.
