What's the Very Best .45 for Under $1000

I finally got a chance to shoot my Sig P245 last weekend---it didn't live up to expectations and I've already ditched it.

Other than a P245---What's the most bang for the buck .45 auto out there for $1000 or less?? Single or Double action doesn't matter-----What's the Best???

If you can find a Rock River Arms 1911 basic model with a few rounds through it, then there's your answer.

Otherwise, probably an STI Trojan.

Maybe two CZ-97s...

Out of curiousity, why did you get a 245 instead of a P220? There always seem to be a glut of compact .45's on the market as people find them difficult to hit with at the range, and a lot of recoil and muzzle blast. Plus a lot of the short-slide M1911 clones don't seem to work as well as the full-size models. And the cost and weight is very similar.

Unless you define whether you'll be using it for carry, range, IDPA, house, etc. it's difficult to call anything "best". Although some will try - here comes the usual procession of M1911 clones....

Under $1000? There are ALOT of guns that would fit that requirement. There are also alot opinions to add to the mix.
I'm gonna add my 2 cents worth and say the HK USP 45. ;)

Unles I am vastly mistaken the RRA guns are popular for bullseye shooters, some say the best deal for under $1600.

You will wait 18 months to get one if you order now.

I am very pleased with my Kimber Custom Classic Target you should be able to find one for under $800.

H&K USP45F.

The HK USP45, or even the Tactical if you want to get even closer to the $1,000 limit.

The USP45 is my favorite .45, bar none. I haven't shot a Wilson or a Les Baer yet, but I like my USP45 better than any Glock, SIG, Kimber, Colt, or Springfield.

Shoot an AB-coded one, the trigger is smooth and sweet!

I'm surprised Ala Dan hasn't replied yet and say that the P220 is the best .45 ACP under $1,000.

I do think the P220 would be your best bet. Most Sig Sauer fans favor the full sized P220 over the P245.

$1000 for a plastic pistol?
What has the world come too!?

Satan himself will be wearing snowshoes the day I spend a grand on drastic plastic!:D

I went to the gunshop a couple of years ago to buy a P245.

The gunmonger pulled the 245 out of the case to show me. Than he pulled out a P220.

I picked up the 245, than the P220, than the P245 and went home with the P220.

Just felt right.

Next choice would be a Gold Cup if you can find one for under a grand.

Springfield TRP (Though finding one NIB under $1000 isn't always easy.)

RRA 1911s (See above.)

STI Trojan (Modernized 1911 and apparenlty top notch.)

Sig 220st (220s are the best DA/SA 45 available. I'm not crazy about aluminum frames, hence the 'st' stipulation.)

Howdy Friends,

Seems like my friend Special K knows me pretty well.:) LOL
With that said, he is absolutely correct ; IMHO the
Sig-Sauer P220 is the best value currently in the
market, for under a thousand dollar's.:D There are lot's
of excellent choice's out there; but to me Sig's P220 sits
all alone, atop the leader board.

H&K USP or USP Compact.

That thousand dollars will purchase one pistol with Tritium sights, a decent carry rig, and a case of .45 ACP ball for practice.

You can, in Variant 1, carry it cocked and locked, or, DA safety on, or DA safety off. You still have the decocker to go from SA to DA, SIG-style if you so choose. The HK is demonstrably more durable than any SIG and the 2002 SA triggers match SIG's for crispness, and are comparable to a good sub-$1000 dollar 1911.

Just as important, you will NOT find ANY 1911 for ANY price that will outperform the durability or reliability of a USP .45 pistol.

I don't have any experience with the USP pistols and I'm not a radical 1911 fundamentalist (like 'em, don't worship 'em). Now that we're through the disclaimer I have to ask...

How can you make a statement like that? How many USPs have been around for 40, 50, 60+ years? Having no experience with the USP personally, I can't argue with you about which is better. But that statement, while it could theoretically be true, is absurd.

"Just as important, you will NOT find ANY 1911 for ANY price that will outperform the durability or reliability of a USP .45 pistol."

What a load of crap.

I like the HK USP Compact a lot. If I had to get one strictly carry gun, it'd be it.

BUT

The idea that the SA trigger on an HK is comparable to even a *decent* 1911 trigger is insane. Any Kimber, Springfield, Colt, or other 1911 selling for half of your $1000 tag comes with an out-of-the-box trigger that shames the trigger on an HK, Sig, or (especially) Glock.

New...Sig 220....use both 220 and 245, world of difference.

Used.....Ordinance reject govt 1911 with no matching parts.
