WHAT'S THE RATIO OF CWP's IN YOUR STATE???

I was curious, after reading some of the anti-gun crap on another site, and I wondered what the libs would think if they really knew the deal. So, I looked up the numbers and did the math based on the estimated population over 21 and the # of currently active, permits in Florida.

FLORIDA = roughly 1 in 15 people, likely to be packing.

I thought about this some more and got a little chuckle from this.

Average convenience store = 1 or more people carrying.
Average restaurant = 3 or more people carrying.
Average grocery store = 10 or more people carrying.
Average theater = 20 or more people carrying.
Average mall = 65 or more people carrying.
Average theme park/sporting event = 300 or more people carrying.

Makes you think, doesn't it?

What are the averages for your state?

I think a lot of the people that have a CCW don't carry a lot of the time. I have nothing to base this on, but I wouldn't be surprised if over half of the CCW holders only carry on occasion.

In Rhode Island, we have approximately 125 town issued permits for 39 towns (I've got one of these). We have another 4700 attorney general issued permits, as of 2006. They are both valid but the AG permit allows open carry (but not in any practical sense) and the town permit excuses you from the 7 day waiting period. In a state with approximately 1,050,000 people, that means about 0.5% of the total population even has a CCW- nevermind if they are exercising the right...

So to put it in your terms, 1 in 200 people has a permit.

This. I'd guess only about 25% of those with a CCW actually carry regularly.

In NC, I think around 3 to 5% of the population as a CCW, so that probably means only 1% actually carry.

Personally, I find these 'from the hip' stats, appalling.

It's like people that don't wear their seatbelt, when they're just running up town...When a statistical majority of traffic accidents happen within 2 miles of your home.

If you don't exercise your rights, you may not have them much longer...

Last time I heard here in Texas it was less than 1% of the population. Now that is still a large number compared to the population. I know of several CHL holders that do not carry full time. For me if I am not at work I am probably carrying. (Note I do not carry at work. It is against company policy to even have a pocket knife in your car, much less a fire arm.)

I would carry more if possible. Unfortunately due to the nature of my work there is no way (work in hospitals and fly every other day). I keep it in my car at best, but I'm rarely around my car...

I guess I'm as much of a statistic as my senior prom date.

A CHL instructor in TX told me that the CHL instructor organization estimated that 80% of folks with CHL don't carry. They just got the CHL to carry in the car. With the new law about car carry, that might drop the number of CHLs.

So actual carry can't be determined by number of permits.

BTW, just to carry in the car is foolish. We got the TX law as Dr. Gratia-Hupp watched her family die because her gun was in the car!

Interesting statistic.

What makes it interesting is that I've attended a couple of seminars where it was discussed that there's reportedly some statistics that indicate that perhaps only 20% of active LE carry weapons off-duty.

I'm not sure what the statistics are for Mississippi, but I do know that in the church I'm a part of (~200 members) there are three of us that I know of that have permits and carry on a regular basis. Not really scientific, but it's something :D

I carry everywhere that's legal, and occasionally places that are posted, depending on what it is and how long I'm there. Having a permit won't do any good if I don't act on it.

i carry everywhere i can, except church. i feel that if someone is coming to rob a church, they are going to "get their's" before i could do anything.

but there are 195k valid ccw permits, and a population of 9.3M...

so it works out to ~1 in 50 are carrying, or at least able to legally. unless ive done the math wrong.

The risk in church is not being robbed but a nut trying to speed your journey to the Great Beyond.

About car carry, I heard a local preacher on the radio say that if you don't contribute your car will blow up as you leave (not kidding). Some guy gets up and yells : That happened to me.

Take that into account if you leave your gun in the car. You can't make this stuff up.

Now if you consider the number of folks who are criminals and those not obeying concealed carry laws, you might reach the percentage or ratio of people packing. There might even be a much higher number.

I have no idea about % of carry here in Az., as you do not need a permit to CC, but permits are available yet. The last figure that I saw was 158,000+ permits had been issued.

edited for typo. 158,000 not 58,000

Statistics - Concealed Weapons & Permits
These numbers reflect all transactions and the current status of permits, instructor certifications and training organizations since the inception of the CCW program in Arizona on September 8, 1994. Please note, these numbers do not reflect changes, such as a permit that was suspended and later reinstated.

I was thinking Missouri was something like 110,000 or so - really a low number overall. But you have to take the class, and typically pay a fair amount to get it.

It's a very low number in Colorado, and I shudder to think what percentage of permit holders don't trouble themselves to keep and bear arms.

I do my part to make up for their carelessness by always carrying.
