What's the purpose of a 6.5 creedmoor when there's a 260 Renington ?

I built a 260 with Douglas 10" twist barrel on a VZ24 action in 2009 that did not work out.

I built a 260 with Shilen 9" twist barrel on a commercial Mauser action in 2013 that did not work out.

I built a 6.5-06 with a Shilen 8" twist barrel on a commercial Mauser action in 2015 and that worked, and I killed couple deer with it, one at 629 yards.

I don't think one cartridge is more accurate than another or that one powder is more accurate or one powder charge is more accurate.. when I am shooting.
But there is a big difference in bullets and barrels when I am shooting.

However, except case neck, the dimensions in my .260 are better than the 6.5CM dimensions in Unclenick's drawings.

The ones in the drawing are off the SAAMI minimum chamber dimensions and will apply to SAAMI standard test barrels for these chamberings. A lot of reamer designs don't adhere to these exactly. There are, for example, a good half dozen different sets of 223/5.56 reamer dimensions commonly made, of which only one matches SAAMI. Same with 308/7.62. Additionally, there are manufacturer specific dimensions. Remington seems to like longer freebores than SAAMI standard, for example, and get their reamers made to their spec for that. A lot of custom reamers get made for custom rifle smiths with narrow necks, shallower throat angles, etc. I'm not clear what you mean by your dimensions being "better" without specific numbers, but there certainly are "different" dimensions around.

I have a 260 that I punch paper and hunt with. The heaviest bullet I use is 120 grains, so I don't see that the 6.5 CM offers me any advantages. I can see the advantage if you want to shoot 140 gr bullets and seat them long, so for long distance the CM would be the way to go.

If I ever replace the 260, I'd be more inclined to go with a 6.5-06 or a 6.5-284. That'll get you into 270 territory. But my 260 is so amazingly accurate, I'll just stay with it for the near term and probably the long term. And if I really needed a 270, I'd just go to the gun safe and get mine.
