I really don't look at the price of a firearm except to make certain I don't exceed book on a used firearm.

As for new ones, I consider the old adage "If you want to play ya gotta pay". Cold hard reality is that the prices have gone up substantially over the years. What once was considered expensive at $600 is now considered to be a modestly priced gun.

Do I consider the Baers, Wilsons, and others overpriced? Yes. Am I willing to pay for their firearms? Yes, if it is something I want.

If it makes me happy to own a certain firearm I buy it. The hell with the cost.

After about $500-$750 you are buying a collector's item. Of course, I would drop $10K maybe more for something really rare like a G18 or 93R.

I voted for the 500-700 range just because I simply cant afford guns that aproach the size of my morgage payments. The answer could be completly different if I had a different budget. I mainatin that there are some prices I would not be willing to pay regadless of how much money I would have. For example I would never pay $1mil for 'the' .45 Luger even if I had a mil to spare. In my opionion it is not worth it. I would pay a million for something like Earp's Colt SA Army or the Derringer that killed Lincoln for their historical value.

However that was not the question you asked and I dont have a million about the house, so I guess the $500-$700 stands, and thats only because the lower side of that includes some guns I want.

When I was younger, I would have paid more. Now, I buy mostly lightly used weapons that others have disliked for one reason or another......and spend the saved money on mags or ammunition.

Less than $500 for a "decent" pistol.

What, no poll on how much for a "fantastic" pistol?

I've paid almost $2k for a custom-made pistol.

Only once, have I spent more than $700,

and that was back in December of 1995.:( The
gun? A Sig P229 in .40S&W. Ended up swapping
it straight-up for NIB Smith & Wesson 629-5
Classic .44 Magnum w/ a 5" barrel; and never
looked back.:D The cost of the P229 was
$813.20, including sales tax.:(

vyper005, it looks and shoots like a dream. 1.5" at 50 yards, never choked on anything. It's my "heirloom" piece. I can't say enough good things about a custom made gun.

I paid $1060 for a HK P7M8 2 years ago. I bought a USP Tactical for $853 last year. This year I bought a S & W Registered Magnum for $1000. Next year who knows what I might bring home. ;)

USE "RING RULE"

You know, the one that says "the ring cost should equal two months' salary".
Yeah, that rule.

I figure that whatever it takes is a good price for what I want.

I believe that the MP in MP5 stands for machine pistol if thats the case the most ive ever spent on a "pistol" would be around 4000-5000.00 dollars. :D

But i did have a g18 that i sold to another class 3 sot dealer for around 3500.00 about 1 year ago thats a hand gun.

I mostly keep a 700-1000 dollar limit on my handgun buy's but i have shelled out as little as 299.99 for a pistol.

So i voted over 700.00

$700 seems low...

Not that you cant get a good weapon for under $700, but obviously many on TFL have spent far in excess of this with al lthe modded 1911's, sigs, HK's, etc...

In my case, my HK usp45f:
$702 gun (after tax,etc)
$107 match trigger
$53 decocker only
$195 UTL utility light
$210 2 spare hi-caps
$69 Holster
$35 magazine pouches

= $1371 just for a regular HK USP!!!

Threw down $1500 for a H&K P7/M13 to babysit my two other P7s, it just sits in my safe, happy to have it.

Threw away over $1000 for my Kimber Ultra CDP + grips, will always regret that one.

Next gun will be a Wilson Combat, don't think I'll be dissapointed.

On the other side though, I paid $200 for my S&W 586 .357mag, best price ever and one of my all time favorites.
