The most I've ever spent on a pistol was $995.00  It was on a Kimber Pro CDP...I regretted it later cause the pistol didnt seem to be worth that kinda money...The aluminum frame seemed paper thin plus you had to use that crazy tool(paper clip) to capture the guide rod assembly when taking the gun apart...kinda cheesy in my book...I guess some guns feel solid and some do not...My Two-Tone Sig 229 w/Siglites is gonna run me a little over $800 bucks...Thats about my limit nowadays...What yours ?? :)

500-700

In general, the pistols over 700 are over-rated unless you are talking the handmade custom jobs like Wilson. The production semi-custom jobs like Kimber are nice, but IMO not worth the asking price. I am sure that most people do NOT agree with me though.....

The most I've ever spent on a gun is $800 for a brand-new USP Tactical. At the moment I'm shopping for a P7M8, but I won't pay a cent over $1,200.

In my country, if we buy the Colt, Kimber, ParaOrdnance, sig and other high quality 1911's. You will throw your 900 to 1000+ dollars. A pistol costing 500 dollars that we see on the internet, that is for sale on our gunstore would be 40 to 45 thousand on our currency. The more we pay if an STI and other custom made guns from USA.

I would lay down quite a wad of cash before I woke up and learned you can have a hell of a great gun for only a couple of hundred bucks.:) That is if you know where to look and what to buy.;) Not that I don't own high end guns, I have the Kimbers, HK's, Sigs, ect. but the one I like the best is my CZ75 I picked up for 350.00.

For a decent pistol you stopped to early. $700 is just getting started. Look at the new 210's or the p7's. They are in the 12 to 20's. Look at a custom Baer or Wilson, they start in the 15's and go to the 30's.

Quickly thinking about it, the last time I bought a gun for less the $900 it was a glock 20 and that was a whim purchase a long time back.

Decent guns like the Sig Sport series or the H&K's are not cheap, but they are worth it.

A P7M8 and a couple of 1911's at various levels of trickedoutitude put me, sadly, in the $700 and beyond bracket...

COST NO OBJECT

Thinking about how much money this or that gun cost or will cost to modify makes you sound like Democrats.

Yeeehaw!

The most I've ever spent on a handgun (including modifications) was about $1200 in the late eighties. As I grow older, my handguns are less modified. Now the accessories are breaking me.:D

That truly depends.

I could very easily go pretty nuts for a Smith & Wesson New Century (Triple Lock) in really good condition...

I think in the semi-auto market, though, I'd top out around $800 for an HK P7M series.

The most I ever spent was $1k for a Bob Chow (former Olympic shooter turned gunsmith) customized 1911. It also had ivory grips.

Mind you, for the most part, $700 on up is pretty pricey for a handgun when you consider a second hand gun of a less prestigous make will shoot just as readily (and perhaps reliably).

Strangely...or not so strangely...the only time I've spent that kind of coin on a hand gun was for 2 HK's. My P7M8 and my USP Expert45.

I would spend up to $1400 for a Rock River Elite Commando. I would be willing to spend more but it would be for a full custom to my specs.

I'd pay $700 plus for a good pistol. Fortunately, I get most of my stuff used so I don't have to.

I agree with cz, you should be able to get a good pistol for less than 700. I paid 425. for my G21, in 1992 and have said that its worth 3 times that much. Would I really pay that much? NO, I'd buy another M1A first.
Anything above 700., IMO, and you're paying for hype. Or a non combat worthy race gun. (I can hear it now).
