What's the most you'd pay for ammo?

I still only buy ammunition when it is on sale

That's my point. You don't buy unless it's on sale. The question is what's the most you'd pay if it wasn't on sale?

I think the range of responses shows that your question, as asked, is somewhat unanswerable.

The most I, and most others, will pay is as little as possible.

The fact that sale prices are easy to find sets my mind at ease.

There is no limit to the amount I will pay for ammunition, just like I there is no limit to the amount I will pay for gasoline. How much I shoot or use is another matter. I already pay $1/round and more for some ammo.

This is quite funny.
The cheapest 223 ammo I can get in reloaded BVAC ammo that's about $1 a round. If I want Remington or cheap Winchester I'm paying $2 a round.

You can hardly get steel case 223 for 50 cents a round in New Zealand.

And the price of a very standard Stag AR 15 is around $5000.
I have seen Remington R15s for $4000 though.

My 50BMG was around $3.00 a round from my last bulk purchase last year. I don't reload. Ammo is kinda like buying gas for your auto. Got to have it. Inflation hurts.

I buy Bitterroot Valley 41 mag ammo. It is about the least expensive for factory loaded ammo when you can find it. But you are still looking at about $0.50/round.

My ammo spraying days are over except with a 22LR. I sometimes think in terms of what one magazine or cylinder costs to just blow away for the heck of it. Too much. But that doesn't stop me from buying; I just shoot more deliberately.

I pay 50 cents a cartridge for mail order .327 federal mag, once you factor in delivery, since it's hard to find on the shelves. Saving my brass for a reloader.
