What's the best factory hunting ammo

For .308, I like Hornady Custom.

For 8mm, Norma and Nosler Custom (although Nosler is a bit pricey). I like Norma's "Vulcan Soft Point", which looks like a hollow point and performs like one, but with more penetration.

Nothing wrong with Core-Lokts, except for the fact that they don't load 8mm to its full .30-06 class potential, therefore I don't use it for that caliber. Fine and affordable for other calibers, although I like trying new and different things and haven't used them in many years.

The ones that shoot the most accurately out of your rifle.

Not really. I'll take a bullet that shoots 1 1/2 inch groups, but stays together and penetrates over a bullet that shoots 1 inch groups but blows up any day.

Start by picking bullets that are appropriate for the game in question. THEN you can pick the most accurate among them.

+1 for scsportsman!!!!!!

The man who convinced me to get a .270 (I've always been a .30-06 lover) is also a Sierra Game King proponent. I will say, the bullets are very, very accurate but my single experience on game was the same as scsportsman's.

I hit a button buck a little high in the shoulder and he dropped like a rock. When I went to field dress the deer, he looked like that bullet had exploded. What a mess!!!! The deer I shot was about 75 yds from the stand.

I still have most of that box of ammo and most of a box of their bullets which I purchased before this experience. However, I don't plan to use them on game. They are great "paper punchers":D:D

Now, I am loading Hornady or Speer bullets for my hunting needs.

I like CoreLokt for whitetail. If you think a $50-$60 box of super premium ammo will make your deer deader, then go right ahead. :D
