What is your choice for factory hunting ammo for .243,30.06 or other calibers.I used Remington core-lokt for years before reloading. Now, because of time constraints will be going to factory laods again for this year.

Remington Corelokts are exactly what I'd buy, we've used them here at this camp for ever,,, Matter of fact all the rifles except one were originally sihted in and have hunted with Remington Corelokts.... Great penetration and devistating wound channel.... ;)

With no doubt Hornady Custom or Superformance, then Federal Premium--in that order and if you can afford them. -7-

With todays super-animals , you definately need a large caliber magnum and expensive custom ammo with ultra-premium bullets.:D

But for the last 30yrs , Remington Core-Lokts have dropped every deer if I put them in the right place.

I generally always shot Federal blue box stuff prior to reloading. They always took the game but as I have since found out are not nearly as accurate as handloads.

As mentioned, which ever shoots the best in your rifle. My 223 Rem. likes 55 gr. HP Core-Lokt's, Winchester White Box USA 45 gr. HP and Hornady's 55 gr. SP which I currently have it zeroed with. My 280 Rem. likes 140 gr. PSP Core-Lokt and will shoot the 165 gr. SP Core-Lokt's to the same windage as the 140 gr., just two inches lower which is perfect. No need to re zero if I shoot the heavier bullets. My 30-06 Spr. likes 165 gr. Fusion's. My 35 Rem. likes 200 gr. SP Core-Lokt's.

Good luck, NYH1! ;)

I have used Hornady Custom Interbond ammo with much success, but I do not care for the new Superformance ammo it doesn't group well for me. With that said I just recently switched over to Winchester Supreme ammo loaded with Ballistic Silver Tip bullets for two reasons, it groups well and just about every Walmart sells it, so if I am out of town on a hunting trip I know I can buy it because there's always a Wally World close to somewhere....:)

Whatever they have on sale.

I usually buy two boxes. One to sight in and practice. One to hunt with.

I still have 19 out of 20 of My Federal Power Shock .30-06 180 gr left from my last hog hunt/ The one that I used resulted in a kill of a feral hog who dropped dead on the spot. Which resulted in some mighty fine smoked sausage. I have two boxes of Winchester Super X for my .270 to use that I bought on sale.

Now if I was going to hunt dangerous game I would probably do some research on what load/caliber I was going to use. For deer and regular sized critters I see what I can get a good buy on from Winchester, Federal, Hornady or Remington.

Core lokt are the best overall non premium ammunition. There is, with normal cartridges like the two you mentioned, no real need to upgrade to partition or bonded when hunting deer or other light game.

With the .243, I would personally prefer to move up to a speer hot core "bonded" bullet to enhance penetration, and in 30 caliber, I'd prefer a polymer tip to open the wound channel quicker, but that is all in the handloading arena around here. Factory ammo in those types aren't ordinarily available. So, my purchases would be core lokt.

If core lokt give you acceptable accuracy, and they should, get them, and know that you are holding at least a 9 out of 10 in cartridge performance.

As was said, there are plusses to being sighted in and ready to go with ammunition that can be picked up in thousands of locations around the world, like corelokt. In some states, you can probably find 150 grain remington 30-06 in more locations than you can find condoms.

The ones that shoot the most accurately out of your rifle.

+1. I'd take super accurate over super high-tech terminal ballistics ANY day.
