What's the best .45 (DA/SA) for the money?

The best for my money? SIG Sauer P220! For your money? Whatever works for you.

I hunt, therefore I am.

I'll second the P220.
I have seen some used ones for as low as 450.
Not bad.
Other than the P220 - my options would be the HK USP and a Glock.
Of you get a used one they can be had for cheap.

For $333.34 + Tax, the Ruger P97 can't be beaten. I just bought one for a travel companion and if you will go the Live Fire Forum below this one, you can read about my first range trip.

My old P90 displayed combat accuracy. The P97 is accurate by anyone's standards and best of all, they will eat anything you feed em'. The Sig 220 is good, mine was anyway but you get one extra round with the P97.

The Ruger auto's have always been a bargain. They are good for what you pay. The Sig220 on the other hand is great depending on wether or not the dealers are charging prime rates. I bought mine at $550 new 4 years ago. If you're looking for a basic gun that will do what it's supposed to, then the Ruger p97. If you want a little more quality and distinction than pick up the Sig.

Got this one in the bag! I will have to agree
with the other post, as I depend on the Sig
P220 daily. I gave $639.95 for mine in March
of 95; as they were pretty tough to come by in these neck of the woods. :) On the other
hand, for those on a limited income, the
Ruger is a bargain. :D

For the money? The Ruger P-97

In terms of durability? P-97
In terms of accuracy -- maybe a slight edge to the SIG, but only a slight edge.

In terms of resale value? Maybe a slight edge to the SIG.

In terms of pure pleasure in shooting? Kinda depends on the shooter.

I've had Rugers and I've had SIGs. I think the Rugers are underrated and very good. I think the SIGS are overrated, but still very good.

You plunks down your money and you buys what fits you best.

Sig 220 by all means,Best of everything

Best for "on a budget" purchase...the Ruger. Best available for the money....HK USP. Just my opinion, but I have -no- regrets from purchasing the HK. Glad I spent the extra money and got a pistol that was worth it.

You might also want to consider a Taurus 945. 8+1 da/sa can be carried cocked and locked and has a decocker. Mags are cheap and plentiful at gun shows. Outstanding factory support and life time repair. If your gonna cary it more than you shoot it, good gun for the money. Only word of caution if you have big meaty hands you may get some very severe hammer bite. No one wants to shoot something that bites on both ends.

Ruger P-97. I haven`t shot it along side any Sigs yet but I know it will outshoot a Glock 17 or USP Compact .45 more often than not, even in the hands of the other guns owners! The DA trigger pull is better than the H&K too. :) Marcus
