Dogger--
Interesting you should open this thread. I imagine it goes mainly to what is selling well, but I recently did an informal survey of what people actually CARRY in our North Texas county, as opposed to just keep in the car or shoot at the range. The results may be of interest. Majority of these are by law enforcement officers, because it is easy to see ‘em around the sheriff's office--uniformed personnel or plainclothes with jackets off. Typically, some of the troops change carry pieces every 90 days, and some have been packing the same old thing for 20-plus years.
1911-types--Probably 30 or so. Mostly Colts, a fair number of Kimbers. Five Commanders, both light and heavy. I don't know of any caliber other than .45.
Glocks--The major single brand. Maybe 70 of them, mostly in .40, several in .45 and .357 SiG, and, of course the 9 mm. A lot of full size guns but mostly the mid-size, both LEO and private. Several plainclothes and private carry the compact. This large number has to do with one good sized agency issuing Glocks.
SiG pistols: Quite a few privately purchased and carried by LEOs. All models and flavors, 9, .40 and .45 fairly evenly split, with the .357 SiG coming on fast. One P230 .380. Texas Department of Public issues .357 SiGs, so there are probably 25 troopers in the uniformed services packing ‘em. Their plainclothes people have wide latitude in their own choice. The Rangers here and in adjoining counties carry 1911s mostly. The Narcotics, Criminal Intelligence and Auto Theft types may carry anything at all, revolver or auto.
Rugers--About five autos in 9, .40 and .45, and two .357 revolvers.
.32 autos: Five Kel-Tecs, one Beretta Tomcat, two Seecamps.
Colt revolvers--One Python, one Detective Special, one old Agent
Three Kahr 9 mm, one in .40.
Four Kel Tec 9 mm, and one in .40.
Several S&W revolvers still in LEO holsters hereabouts--
Five Model 19,2-1/2 and 4-inch, one Model 27, five-inch, one 25-5 in .45 Colt, one .44 Mag 4",( but I THINK he carries .44 Special loads), and four snub .38s, different models. One Model 10 four-inch.
Only about four S&W auto pistols, and that has been about constant since well before "The Agreement."
Four H&K USP in .40.
About 15 Browning High Powers, about evenly split between 9 and .40. Two 1910s in .380.
Three Beretta 92s, and two DAO Cougars in .40. The latter are our two Immigration inspectors, who have no choice in the matter.
Two Taurus, PT 99 or whatever, in 9 mm and one equivalent in .40. One Taurus .38 snub. Strangely, none of the .44 Spl or .45 Colt have shown up on LEOs.
And, yes, one small town cop carried a .44 Desert Eagle for a while but I think he was laughed out of it.
Best to all--
