What's a good price for a S&W Model 19

Any opinions on what's a good price for a 4", blue, Model 19-5 with very little useage?

A good price would $400 or less. A fair price would be $425-$450. Anything more than that would be too much, in my estimation. That assumes just the gun, no box, papers, tools, etc.

I believe prices on Model 19s are down by at least $50 over the last year. The dash-5 is a non-pinned barrel, non-recessed cylinder gun, which diminishes its value at least $50 under a pinned/recessed gun in the same condition, again, in my estimation.
 
Top price for a non pinned model 19 is $400 tops. I would try to find one for $375. I bought a 19-4 6 inch for $269 out the door seven months ago. This is a pinned and recessed revolver. Shop around.

I just paid $310 out the door for a 19-4 (P&R) square butt. The bluing is a little worse for wear but it is in great condition mechanically should be a great shooter. Shop around and if you Are looking for a range/work gun remember some guns that have wear may have been riding on someones hip or in their car and not have been shot much, like mine.
 
I paid about $500.00 for a nickel 19-4 in near perfect condition a couple of years ago. Too much? Maybe so, but I wouldn't sell it for that today. I saw a nickel 19-3 not long ago with a price tag of $729.00. It was gone a week later. I don't know what they got for it, but if I know the shop they didn't come off it much.

Blued 19's seem to go for around $500.00 there. Model 10's are near $400.00.

Those prices are all for near NIB condition guns. I've never even seen a "beater" or "well worn" gun in this shop.
 
In my area, such a gun would bring $400-500. An older P&R gun, a gun with a shorter 2 1/2" barrel, a nickel gun, or a gun with the box and papers would bring more.
 
Look around...

There may be another stupid person out there that will sell a P&R 4" blued 19. w/box papers and that only had 50 shots through it for $250.00....

How do I know for sure it only ha 50 shots through it?


I'm the stupid idiot that put them through it...prior to that the gun had been unfired.

Moral of this story is - before you sell a gun you no longer shoot - find out what the going price is for it before you open your (stupid, stupid, stupid) mouth...
 
I believe prices on Model 19s are down from a year ago. I bought this finish challenged-but excellent mechanically 19-3 for $300 OTD a couple of weeks ago.

I paid $425 OTD for this nice 19-3 two and one-half inch gun back in October. A year ago, the same dealer was asking $500 for guns not much better than the four-inch gun I have pictured, and $595 for guns not nearly as nice as the snubby.

I recently paid $430 for a 19-4 on GunBroker. Feel like I overpaid a bit, but I watched several in much worse condition sell for not much less. It came with a standard hammer and trigger, but I swapped those out with target versions.

 
I have a short track, 23 months, and no chart for the 2-1/2 Model 19. The average price is a bit higher than what's been posted so far. Here it is:

Smith & Wesson Model 19 Revolver in .357 Magnum,.38 Special, Plus P, 2.5 in Bbl, .38 Special, Plus P . Bluebook of Gun Values (31st Edition) indicates between $325 in 95% condition and $550 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 14 recorded prices for this model gun from $395 to $680 over a period of 1 Yrs 11 Mos ending January 10, 2011. The average price as of that date was $493. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $457.

$350 is a great price, buy it. The -3 has made from 1967-1977. The early box is worth a few bucks. The 1955 date indicates a pre model number box that brings about $50+.
 
Yeah out of production Revolvers are somewhat difficult to price. Often the overpriced ones are easy to spot but 'fair' price is subjective. There is a finite supply so usually sells can set their price and sit on it. I saw a Model 17 that I thought was easily 100 over priced. What do you know another guy in the store bought it without blinking an eye.
