What's a good gun store in Los Angeles Area?

Yeah, I miss Orange County in some ways. There were several gun stores down there besides the ones mentioned. http://www.grantboys.com/guns.html is a sporting goods store with firearms. Haven't been there in a while.

By the way, Martin B. Retting is where Lee Harvey Oswald's scope came from.

Martin B. Retting in Culver City: http://www.retting.com/

Been there since I was a boy (quite a while now) and always well stocked. Prices are about what you'd expect from a brick and mortar operation these days, but they stand behind their sale.

Rretting in culver city is usually expensive. Retail + at least 15% and up. The only good thing about this store is that it looks like a normal gunshop and not a chain store. They do not negotiate on price and you should avoid the older guys. Outright RUDE.
Eventhough I have bought several guns from them, when I asked if I could buy a rifle I liked on line and use them as the FFL, the older tall guy I was talking to was just rude. never answered any of my questions directly and tried to sell me an old relic instead of the new reproduction Mauser 98K I was looking to buy. It got so bad that I had to remind him that I really do not need his services and/or a new 8mm if it was so much of a hassle. Also reminded him that I can drive 15 miles to burbank where there are 4 or 5 gun shops within a mile and will gladly and politely do the transfer service and appreciate the business too. Try Guns direct or Gun world in burbank. much nicer people to deal with.

Head East on I-10 to I-15 and find...

Ammo Brothers: http://www.ammobros.com/ 780 S. Rochester Avenue, Ontario, CA 91761

In Rancho Cucamonga (just north of Ontario) there is Turner's Outdoorsman http://www.turners.com/turners/stores.php
The store is at: 11738 San Marino St. Suite B
Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730

Also in Rancho Cucamonga is Bass Pro at 7777 Victoria Gardens Ln
Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPageC?storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&appID=94&storeID=52

Going to all three stores would make a nice day trip. Make sure to use an up to day GPS or Google Maps as the stores can be hard to get to even though you can see them from the freeway!

All of these are considerably larger than Bain and Davis in San Gabriel. If you go to Bain and Davis, go next door to the sporting goods store as they have a small collection of guns as well.

Gun World Burbank

I know this is an old thread, but I found it while looking for a good LA-based firearms dealer to purchase my first firearm. Based on suggestions here, I tried Retting first since they're the closest to me, but found both their selection and their FFL transfer policy to be lacking.

And then I called Gun World in Burbank. Their selection is excellent despite being a small, locally owned shop. Their staff are extremely knowledgeable and courteous, and they had several good suggestions for a first-time buyer like me. I left there as a satisfied customer with business cards of affiliated merchants for custom holsters, gunsmiths and training experts.

In my opinion, Gun World is the best dealer in Los Angeles and I highly recommend them.

A first time buyer looking into FFL transfer policies? Interesting. If I wore a tin foil hat I'd think you worked there rather than actually being new to firearms. ;)

I think this is addressed to me? I research anything I buy extensively online before purchase. I like to know as much as I can, especially where firearms are concerned. If you find a good deal online, you'd better understand state laws and FFL transfer policies before purchasing. My initial purchase was from GunBroker.com and was well under what Gun World or Retting had the pistol priced for.

I've since also discovered Guns Direct down the street from Gun World. A smaller selection, but it has a clean interior (with sofas + magazines for the missus) and knowledgeable and professional staff.
