What's a good gun store in Los Angeles Area?

Well it happened. I had to move from Austin, Texas to Los Angeles, Kalifornia.

There is no use crying about it. I had to throw away my high capacity mags.
I thought about challenging Kalifornia's manifestly unconstitutional gun laws,
but now I have other things to worry about.

What are the best gun stores in the Los Angeles area, with good prices and good selections?

I did a search. I couldn't find anything.

Cheers,

Jae

a friend of mine from high school lives in california now ... orange county.

he buys most of his stuff at big 5 because it's cheaper than anywhere else.

i don't know about specialty type products though...but if they don't have it at big5, they will special order.

about the high cap magazines, i was under the impression you could not purchase them in california, but buying them in arizona and bringing them home was perfectly legal.

Ivory Beads is a great store, but mostly shotguns. Duncans down in San Diego is pretty nice also. LA has mostly gotten rid of their gun stores, it's shame because the used to have some pretty good ones.

Try a little south, a little north, or a little east.

There are some gun shops in LA but all the best ones closed years ago. Which is weird because there are A LOT of shooters in LA (before we commence with the snide remarks, I mean responsible, legal ones).

Depending on where you wind up shooting, it might be worth the drive to find a shop you like either in Orange County, Riverside/San Bernadino, or points north such as Lancaster/Palmdale. LA is politically confusing, but it is surrounded by areas that tend to be a bit more conservative. In my area of Orange County I have a dozen gun shops, half of which are exceptional, within 20 minutes drive.

Big 5 is good for some rifles and shotguns and okay for ammo. Big 5 does not do handguns, but they sell some handgun ammo. They do good weekly specials on typical guns (find the ads in the Sunday papers and you will see what I mean)

Turners also has weekly specials. Check them out at www.turners.com
and go to weekly specials. Turners sometimes has good ammo prices.

There is a Bass Pro out in Cucamonga if thats your thing.

My favorite gun store is Fowlers Gun Room in Orange, CA.

Their sister store is the Stockade in Westminister.

However, none of these stores is probably what you are used to in Texas!

Good Luck!

The Gun Shop is in Lancaster. High Desert Storm and the Gun Galleria are in Palmdale. I believe there are 1-2 shops out in the Victorville/Hesperia area. In Glendale there is King's Gunworks but they are re-organizing now. And I think there's 1 or 2 on Magnolia St. in Burbank but I don't know their names. I think Stevenson is 1 of them. If you reload, there is a supply shop up Little Tujunga Cyn. at the Angeles Shooting Range. Oh, and there is a store on Los Angeles Street out in the south side of Simi Valley. And Baine and Davis in the San Gabriel area. The Gun Galleria has the biggest inventory, but they're overpriced, IMHO. Now remember, you're not in TX no more so the shops out here on the Left Coast, probably are not going to be as grand as I imagine they are in Texas. You might also do the online Yellow Pages. Oh yeah, welcome to Callyfornya.:D

I've bought more than a few guns in Los Angeles County, unfortunately most of those dealers have closed over the years, and I don't blame them.

I've bought from Turners, and Martin Retting and they are still around. Big 5 will carry a few rifles and shotguns, that's about it.

There are more gun shops in a 5 mile radius around me now than in the entire LA County, so the selection is slim. You could do worse than cross the county line and buy in Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside or Orange Counties.

Is B+B Guns/Whatever still in North Hollywood? I was there 20 years ago, the place had EVERYTHING. Had to take a number for service, then the sales person would show you anything you wanted. They had a wholesale operation in the back.

Also the place that furnished AR's to the LAPD during the infamous North Hollywood bank robbery.

There was another place along the 210? Foothill Freeway?, I'm thinking Covina? that had a range and rented guns if you didn't bring your own.

B & B is long gone. That was a good store, I used to go in there during my lunch hour to look. That was when you could buy a handgun and walk away with it.

Nowhere

All the gun stores in CA are EXPENSIVE and always charge a premium.

I have stuck with
www.galleryofguns.com
www.gunbroker.com

turners [overcharges] if you are buying anything larger than a .22lr. Their ammo is expensive most of the time. I just buy cleaning stuff there when it goes on sale.

There is a place in Orange County "Fowlers Gun Room" that is quite expansive, so if you want to check out some guns just to look and feel, that would be the place to do it. They also charge a hefty premium on all their guns.

L.A. gun shlops?

Sr,

In O.C. see Fowler's then buy from Ade's Gun Shop, almost across the street.
There is also a sweet gun shop in Fontana; albeit nothing to see. You have to call Clyde and he will order it. 909-357-9990.
Also Evan's in Orange 714-283-5248 not much on display but knowledgeable help. All of these are knowledgeable gun shops.

Good Luck,

Max

Big5 ammo prices are stupid, Walmart is cheapest but just about every Walmart in Calif is out of ammo right now.

Out in the boonies...of Gun shops

The best gun shop here is nowhere. Gotta agree Big 5 is ok for long guns. Just don't try to buy used. Every shop charges double actual appraisal.

likeguns

Try Bain and Davis in San Gabriel. Great people there who spend a lot of time with their customers, and better prices than Turners. As far as Big 5, forget it, no handguns at all.

Reopening this Discussion.

I wanted to get this discussion going again. This is the way I found this forum, by Googling LA area gun shops. I have been on a quest for a good gun shop in LA or OC. I have checked out everyone I could learn about. I get a little A.D.D. when I get on an interest. I am going to my first gun show on Saturday at the Ontario Convention Center, I am pysch'd.

I have been disappointed at most of the shops I have visited. Most have a very small selection. I won't call out all the disappointments.

Greta's in Simi Valley has a very good selection and a super nice new store. They have plenty of staff on and are helpful. The bummer is their prices are outragous, even by California standards.

The biggest suprises so far is a tiny little hole in the wall in Palmdale called Santa Fe Guns. Wow, he has a ton of guns stuffed in that place. Lots of pistols, and tons of antique armes, esp. lever action rifles. The shop keeper I met was super nice and helpful. If your in that area it is worth a stop.

I make the mistake of going to the Bass Pro shop in Florida when I was on vacation. Ever kind of ammo out on shelves, where you can actually look at it. Massive selection and nice stuff. We just don't get it like that here in Cali.

I still want to check out Fowlers Gun Room in Orange, I've heard good things. I think I've hit most of the others listed here. Any other suggestions?

So I made it to Fowlers Gun Room today and wow. They have some serious selection. Not only that, there were plenty of super friendly and helpful staff there to help. The prices seemed resonable for SoCal. I was really blown away when I opened the door, to see how many rifles they had. Shotguns seemed decent, and a little light on pistols, but over all great. It was worth the trip out of my way to check it out.

Next will be to visit the Stockade.
