What would you do?

As we age our eyes loose their ability to change shape. That makes it hard for use to focus at close distances. This is why almost everyone requires reading glasses as they get older. I would go with one of each with distance in my dominate eye as it will be used 95% of the time. Or maybe putting distance in my non-dominate eye would speed the brains adaption to switching eyes. I wish I had cataracts now and did not have to wait another 30 years. I have been wearing contacts for 20 years and I really hate it. Cant get lasik due to astigmatism. Very expensive for my amount of astigmatism. I think it was $5000+. That's like 15 years of contacts. Would be nice to be able to wake up and see though. I had eagle vision till I was 12 or so, then went downhill fast. Now I can not even read the damn eye chart with contacts in. Doesn't help that I can not pass the stupid, "better here, or here" test they do. Why cant they just have the lasik machine measure my eye and prescribe the perfect contact lens? Do I really have to determine which option I think looks best at 20 feet? Great I can see letters perfect inside a room. Once outside I always wonder how they could be so far off.

Anyway, good luck with the last of your surgery. My dad had it done a few years ago after 50 years of glasses and now only need readers, but I am not sure if he had the option of two different lenses due to spots in his vision.

My wife's an opthalmic tech. Here's her thoughts.
1. monovision , dominent eye for distance other eye for intermediate, this give you more of a range.
2 crystalens, new implant that works with muscle in eye to focus on distance intermediate and some near, this is not covered by insurace.
3 distance vision then would wear readers.

keep in mind when going for distance your sight would be somewhat blurry because its near vision.
hope this helps be happy to anwser any other questions

Up date on surgery

Up date. Went with distance in both eyes . Second Surgery done on 4/30/12 .Now the healing begins . Doc said with astigmatism glasses will a option for shooting but a defenite for close up .

I have distance in both eyes. I see distance better than I ever have and I shoot better. I wear bifocals too. The bifocal is adjusted for close where as the top lenses are clear. Someone might ask, "Why do you wear glasses if you can see distance?" the answer is I've worn glasses almost all my life and don't want to be bothered with putting them on or taking them off all the time. I suspect someone else might ask why I can shoot a handgun better than before. At arm's length I can see just fine, it's the close in stuff such as reading I need the adjustment for.

Congrats mrt949.

Now you need to protect those new eyes with quality polarized sunglasses.

Nice to read it went well.

If I ever get it done,it will be for distance in both eyes as well.

Cheap good quality reading glasses of the same magnification range in each lense are availible everywhere now.

I'm using a pair as I type this right now.
