What would you choose?

I'll try to explain some of you doubts. Last night I was studyng law (I'm not a cop people, just planning to be) and discovered that:
1 - In fact, feds can't travel abroad and buy guns in .357magnum, 9mm or .45ACP. If they want, they can import them through the federal police department. If they choose to buy these guns, they can only buy ONE .357, ONE 9mm and ONE .45ACP. And they can only buy 50 rounds for each of these guns per month.
2 - No Bullshot, IMBEL doesn't make the BHP.
3 - Eric, as I said before, you can buy one 9mm, one .357 and one .45. If you choose to buy a .38SPL or a .380ACP (bigger calibers for civilians and state cops) you can buy more than one model of each. However, in a year, you can buy 800 rounds for each gun. And you can also reload if you choose these two.
4 - Glamdring, you're right. If you choose a .357, you can buy 50 .357 rounds every month, plus 800 rounds per year of .38SPL rounds.
5 - Shipley, we can buy guns in Argentina. However, calibers must be .38SPL, .380ACP, or smaller. If you wanna know more about our laws, e-mail me. And cops have all these limitations because cops aren't rich. Here, some rich people have illegal guns, everybody knows and nothing happens. It's so absurd that we have judges saying in magazines that they have SMGs in their houses, and nothing happens to them. But if a state cop is caught with a 9mm, he'll get at least 2 years in jail. Go figure.

So cops aren't rich, so they must be limited to 50 rounds a month? I like that reasoning.

If I could get the Sistema, I'd go for it and a Taurus .357 (which would be your best choice for your first gun). Your life is worth enough to own more than one gun (Do you think crooks know that cops can't afford more than one gun most of the time? I do.).

This may seem insulting, but it seems that many S. American governments are for sale, including those who work for them, something you alluded to with your comments about the rich with illegal guns. I strongly think you will be able to bend the law enough as a cop to get a good gun into the country, even if this means a few favors to those who help (such as customs officers).

Normally, I'd be opposed to cops breaking the law, but that is usually for personal gain. I have no such problem if they do so for their personal protection.

My vote is for getting a .38spec or .357, two if at all possible. Then as Tamara says, "I would then make a religion out of mastering that little .38." If you are good then the revolver capacity will be enough. If you are bad then you won't be able to carry enough hi-cap mags for the autos.

If limited to the .38special there are some very adequate loads available. 158gr JHP at 1200fps being one.

I would handload in order to be able to exceed the ammunition limit. Two thousand rounds per year is very minimal for practicing drills, getting and maintaining proficiency and having fun. Five thousand per gun being more like it.

Sam...my favorite 9mm is the 9X32R
