What would have happened at your Home today?

I would have hidden in the garage waiting for people to walk up with one hand on the sprinkler controller, :D but that sort of thing is entertaining to me.

But I would never have such a problem, out here all the lots are at least 5 acres, pretty hard to accidentally walk into the wrong house next door.

Like Brian, I've never locked my doors. Not even sure where the house keys actually are (maybe the junk drawer?). Neighbor to my right has his own handgun range against the hill, neighbor to the left had me fix up an old 22 for her, neighbor behind me got a new 30-06 we took out last weekend and behind him is a guy who used to be an IDPA competitor. Pretty safe neighborhood.

Everyone knows each other, everyone is armed, and in the decade I've lived out here the only crime I can think of was last year when an 80 something year old man about a mile away shot his caregiver with a shotgun.

Like Brian,...

Brian locks his doors.... and has reinforced jams, an alarm system, an 8 camera off-site storage surveillance system and windows that are not in plain sight are barred, besides all his valuables and firearms locked up in safes.

He just said that lots of folks in his area don't.:D;)

Part of defensive plan is making sure that there are easier targets.:D

^^Oops, just assumed that was the SOP in the neighborhood. Easier targets... Good idea, but more appealing targets work even better. I always assume any would be robber venturing into my neck of the woods will pass up my house as it is one of the smaller, cheaper places around; plus there is a hill (about 5miles closer to town) with million+ dollar homes that you have to drive past to get to where I am (a place on the hill gets robbed every few months).

Plus I have a home security keypad visible through the front door and security system signs on all the windows (80% as effective as actually having a security system).

Doors not locked ?? Are you thinking in the past ? There is a county near me where in the last two years the crime rate has increased 500 % ---DRUGS

I find it interesting so many stories of crime include an interview of a person living in the area - " we never have that type of thing here " UNTIL NOW

Gated community ? Drug dealers like to live there because they too think they're safer places .

Our house is guarded by the WDSS (Wiener Dog Security Service) and his Caucasian Mountain Dog heavy backup (also known as the fat blond bear licking machine).

No biggie. Assuming one of the teenagers has left the door unlocked again, once the first couple comes in, hand them a towel post licking, take the sign down (chunk across the street) and lock the door. If I am barbequing that door set some extra places at the table.
