What would be a good tactical pistol to go with my tactical AR-15?

Nothing like more bells, whistles, gadgets, do-dads, switches, buttons, levers, and gimmicks in a fire fight. You may not survive, but you'll look cool while taking hits from a .270 while covering your partner.:p

P.S. Just kidding.

please remove tactical from your vocabulary. As you can see from the above posts, your peers are poking fun at you :D , but not nearly as bad as I thought they were going to when I read this post's title. An AR-15 is an AR-15, not a tactical AR-15. The same goes w/ pistols.

Find yourself a handgun that's well made, feels balanced and ergonomic to you and is a reasonable SD caliber. Drop the word tactical from it, be sure to get a good set of night sights and plenty of SD/practice ammo.

Just go with whatever you shoot well.

I don't really see the need to accessorize my rifles with pistols- if somebody doesn't like my sidearm choices or doesn't think they're "serious" enough, well, I didn't ask them.

What's wrong with the Beretta? Isn't that tactical enough?

Maybe "combat handgun" would be a better way to describe what you're after. How 'bout a Browning High Power or a CZ75B or if you want to go over the top an FN Five Seven with 20 rounds of 5.7 x 20mm ammo.

Define "tactical."

Tactical doesn't mean that I want to put red dot sights, scopes, lights and other toys on it. Actually I wouldn't even though I am a "tactical wannabe" and proud of it. I just want something that looks more modern and high tech than my Beretta 92, is lighter than Beretta and can be used as a backup in case AR-15 malfunctions. Walther 22 looks really cool but this caliber is kind of small. H&K is great but is too expensive at $2000.

The Five-seveN shoots 5.7mm ammo. The Five-seveN Compact shoots 18 ga. IV needles.

Seriously though, I feel your pain regarding the 92FS's antiquated looks. I wasn't funning with you when I said P226. It is a really cool looking pistol. And not just because the SEALs use it. I would get mine in 357 SIG anyway.

Hhmmm...something in ninja-esque black. Very fashionable, these days.--Patrice

Ninja? No, my older son does ninja - 2 ninjas would be too much for one family. For me it's rather 21st Century version of "Martini dry - shaken, not stirred".

OK, I can respect that.

Kurbsky, have you thought about the Beretta PX4 Storm? It's very high-tech looking (I think it looks cool). It weighs 7 ounces (almost half a pound!) less than the 92FS and is also a Beretta product. I'm not sure about other folks, but I like to try to keep multiple guns from one manufacturer.

It sounds like it could be a good choice for you.

Tactical (adj) tak-tee-kool- a marketing term meaning matte black finish, some type of rail and a higher price tag.

Sounds like a Walther P99 would fit the bill.

Two thing I alway tell people looking to buy a handgun.

1. Buy the gun the best fits you hand. If it doesn't feel comfortable holding it, it isn't going to feel comfortable shooting. Also, smaller hand can't work safeties and magazine releases on many guns.

2. Buy the calibre that you are about to hit most accurately with. If you can hit with a 9 MM and not a .40 S&W, then you need to go with a the 9MM.

Clint Smith said "10 years after a gun fight no one is going to care what gun you used. Or how many round you fired. All that matters is you're alive."

It didn't work for me with Beretta. I love my Beretta 92 model BUT: my very first pistol was a Beretta in .308 - I hated it because of recoil and my shooting it was highly inaccurate - SOLD IT at a loss. My third Beretta was beretta Cougar in .45 ACP - accucy was so-so, not bad but no good either. It was jamming all the time though and I hated it - SOLD IT at a loss. Maybe the Beretta gun you recommend is excellent but I don't trust Berreta anymore (with the exception of 92 model).

I looked at Walther 99 in 9mm recommended above and it looks like the best choice. It looks great and it is made in Germany. I will probably get that one even before I get my first concealed carry - Seecamp is not taking orders anyway right now.

Thanks for advice everybody...

I think a Rock River Arms LAR-15 with the 7" barrel is in order here. What's more tactical than an AR pistol?!? Same magazines and the scary black color sceme! Not to mention the ability to attach all kinds of gadgets! Can't figure out how to paste the pic (SCARY!!!). Or better yet, 2 of 'em! Still trying to find an IWB holster for CC.
