I kind of wish that there was a way to choose two since there are so many categories. I voted for bolt action rifle because as a hobby I like rifle shooting, and love the connection with the gun I get from having to manually cycle a good bolt action. However, revolvers are a close second and actually what got me into the hobby in the first place.

Most of my carry guns are autoloaders, but nothing tickles my fancy like a classic Smith Revolver. Nothing sweeter, IMNSHO

I agree, i don't know what it is about a bolt action. I love the motion and accuracy of a solid bolt action platform.

A clean, mechanically sound, older Smith revolver steps up my heart rate something wonderful. Especially the K-frames--brilliant balance of size, power, balance, versatility, grace and portability.

Not really covered in the pole, but the rifles that excite me the most is "as issued - unmodified" US Surplus Military Rifles.

Bolt action rifles by far. The last rifle I purchased was a 5R/.308 24" stainless barrel. When one of the shop employees handed it to me I got all warm and tingly inside. Honest to goodness. About a month and a half later I purchased it.

Frankly, I'm pretty excited about my T/C Contender varmint build, buy SS pistol was not a choice!

Another exciting idea I have is getting a Ruger 459 Lott!

I voted revolver because the evidence in the safe suggests I get most excited over those... but I definitely have a thing for leverguns as well.

THE LIST IS NOT INCLUSIVE ENOUGH; the SA sixgun deserves a class all by itself and all the rest are just pretenders to it's exalted throne. S&W DA sixguns are in the running well back down the road. AUTOloaders.....yeah....right......gimme a break.....just malfs waiting to happen.
In my lifetime I have known men who collectively have put bullets in over one hundred people. TO A MAN they all say/said, bet your life on the revolver, NEVER on an autoloading pistol. And ALL of 'em had used both enough to know. ME ?? I carry a G30 everyday, the ugliest gun I've ever owned, the only pistol I ever bought that sold with NO pride of ownership whatsoever. Just a hammer that works.
And so it goes...
