What style of gun is best for you

I like single action revolvers with long hunting/target barrels. 8-10 inches of barrel is my favorite. I also like larger bore such as 44 caliber or bigger.

Can I be 'No Preference'?

For one handed shooting, I shoot a semi-auto better, usually.

For two handed shooting on multiple targets, a double action revolver works best for me.

However, for general purpose use, I feel comfortable with either a Government Model (.45 ACP) or a S&W K frame revolver (preferable .357 Magnum).

If it matters, I've been shooting for over forty years.

Not counting specialty handguns like the XP or the Contender I shoot 4-6 inch K and L frame S&Ws with Target grips best. They just feel like an extension of my hand, I find they balance well and point naturally for me.

Not counting my Contender, I shoot autos best, specifically 1911s in .45 ACP. My Colt Mark IV pin gun gets the top award followed by my EDC, a Kimber UCDP. I can shoot both incredibly well, though both are probably more accurate than I.

For myself I prefer the Glock 23 compact. The 40S&W caliber is a shure stopper.
The compact frame is ideal for conceal carry.
I put the Pachmayr Tactical Grip Glove on the grip...Fits my hand perfect.

It depends on what you're tring to do ...( what is Best ..for what ).../ what are you trying to accomplish with your range time ???

If I'm shooting "Bulls Eye" ...slow fire...a revolver in single action usually has a better trigger ( light break, no slack, no creep, no overtravel )......a good
4" or 6" barreled revolver would be my choice - like an N frame S&W in .357 mag ( model 27 ) or maybe a model 686 (L frame).

If I'm practicing "Tactical Drills" ....where drawing out of a holster...an upper chest area sized target at 6 Ft - 30 Ft ....and I want to draw and double tap that target in under 2 sec...( a 1911 is a lot easier for me to accomplish that ) - keep my fire effective and stay under time pretty easily. I can do it with a good revolver (same N frame in .357 mag in a 4" barrel )..but shooting double action ...I'm a little more rushed with the revolver and sometimes I can't do it in under 2 sec / I need 2.5 sec to do it under complete control. If I really concentrate...I can do it in under 2.0 sec with a revolver...but I can't do it 100%.

But if you set the standard at 2.5 sec ...for a revolver...that's good too.
-----------
So what does better mean / better for what ...for having fun, for accuracy, for tactical drills...for taking quarters from your buddies ...???

For rimfire, I shoot an auto loader. For casual center-fire I go with a revolver (SA and DA) because it makes collecting the brass so much easier. I really enjoy my S&W 625 because it's more accurate than I am, and the moon clips make shell handling a breeze.

For me I tend to shoot the k- frame Revolvers better. My favorites are my S&W Model's 10 and 64 in 4".

4" revolvers for me,,,

I am consistently more accurate with a 4" DA/SA revolver than anything else.

My S&W K-frames are my go-to guns.

I shoot better with autos and generally prefer them, however, my primary carry is a j-frame in .38 Special for functional reasons. If there is an auto in my belt, then that little revolver is still in my pocket.

I'll admit, though, there are times when I take only a K-frame .357 magnum to the range, because the slower pace stretches out the ammo, it requires a bit more concentration/discipline to shoot well, which means it's rewarding when you're on target, and I don't have to pick up any brass when I'm done.
