What States have the least restrictive carry regulations?

mrsMTN, thanks for the links -- hopefully I'll find something. I'm not cut out for this tropical weather -- give me temps in the 50's (or lower) and I'll be happy.

I'm a little confused, Aaron. Does it allow for concealed carry in schools by those with a permit?

54 (f) Notwithstanding the provisions of section 18-3302C, Idaho Code, a
55 person or an employee of the school or school district who is authorized

1 to carry a firearm with the permission of the board of trustees of the
2 school district or the governing board.

Thats is the same question I have been trying to get answered.

Isn't much use for a CWP when you have to go before the school board and say "Yea, I have a permit, can I carry it at work?"

Goes against the reason of the permit, no one should know you have it.

Asking the board, means you do it in a public meeting with the newspaper present. I don't know about anyone else, but how would you like to see the headline in the next days paper read "Local teacher has a concealed weapons permit, and wants to carry in his classroom" Of course, it would list the persons name, where they taught, what they taught, etc etc etc.

The answer is: YES.

Now, like Aaron says, one must go before the school board and ask permission. But unlike what Aaron has found out...or to be precise, not found out, if you are an employee of the school you can elect to go before an executive session (closed door - permitted by Idaho law for employee related items).

What goes on in an executive session may not be disseminated to the public. Therefore only the Board will know, and they can't tell a sole...not even the principal of the school where Aaron works (wink).

Another thing about Idaho, one may carry concealed anywhere except within city limits; mining camps & railroad camps, without having to hace a CCW.

An Idaho citizen who does not work for the school district and has a CCW may carry concealed upon school grounds.

As to the costs of obtaining an Idaho CCW, it varies with the county in which you reside...which is where you must get your CCW. Idaho law allows each county sherriff to adjust the fee according to what they feel is just. My county, the fee is $65.

Vermont, hands down, is the *only*
state in the Union that recognises
the United States Constitution.

Now, the state has other problems to
be sure, but unconstitutional, and illegal
gun control laws that are repugnant to
a free people is not among them.

After (quickly) reviewing the gun laws of Vermant, I would tend to agree.

I do note that GFZ are about what they are in Idaho.

I would note that the concealed carry law in Idaho was passed in order to make card sharks (and other such "scoundrels") more peacable when plying their...ahem...trade. In effect, Idaho is an open state, with respect to gun laws and/or ownership.

Also note that it is generally unlawful in Idaho to sue a gun manufacturer for damages in spurious charges of negligence. I don't believe that Vermont has passed such legislation, but I hope I'm wrong.

Is Vermont a Class III state? Heard that it wasn't.

FWIW, in PA we can carry some Class III weapons concealed with a permit.

Not a legal opinion or legal advice.

Years ago I lived in Alaska and their gun laws were simple .Buy it and carry it . If you are out of town and don't have one you were one of few . People carried everywhere and it was as noticed as your hat . Anyone know if it's still the same ?

The only problem with our gun laws is that we tend to forget that the states around us aren`t quite as understanding. Finding yourself 50 miles into NY or Mass. or God forbid , Canada and then remembering the handgun under the pickup seat will give you a great increase in pucker power.
