What States have the least restrictive carry regulations? I live in New York State and it's a bear to get a permit here.

Vermont is a breeze. Occasionally there will be a city or town that will have a restriction, but for the most part there's no problem.

Outside of Vermont, Idaho is as good as it gets.... given that the restrictions on firearms anywhere are unConstitutional.

Permit to carry concealed, 35$ for four years as long as you don't have a Felony record. Also open carry is legal. Open carry in a car is legal. Considering everything, it ain't all bad. Also, the hunting and fishing are great here.

Vermont is the least restrictive (and best IMO). After moving to Idaho from AZ, I spent some time looking for restrictions on firearms ownership and their use in the state code. There ain't much compared with AZ. And, get this, state preemption law is enforced, unlike in AZ.

In PA, my CCW costs $19.50 for 5 years, and I have very few restrictions on where I can carry. It used to be a problem to carry in Phila and Pittsburgh, but the state fixed that a few years back.

Also, many states won't let you carry in any place that serves alcohol, that kinda' sucks when you go out to a nice resturant for dinner and have to leave the gun in the car! It's stupid to carry a gun if you're out doing some serious drinking, but I don't want to leave it behind if I want to go out to eat.

Wyoming is pretty good. Sounds a lot like Idaho, except our CCW is freakin 65 bucks! 'Course I always carried concealed regardless, it's my constitutional right!

Last time I checked, Idaho's only restriction was the courthouse and you can't carry in a bar if you're drunk. If you're sober you're fine.

That's pretty good. Wife is on her way there right now and I should be about 2 weeks behind her.

Public or private schools and jails, too. Not necessarily drunk, but 'drinking'. The relevant section of the state statues: http://www3.state.id.us/idstat/TOC/18033KTOC.html

Ah, but, have you seen the new law that goes into effect on July 1 here in Idaho?

Things get a bit less restrictive!

Kinda hard to read with all the strike though and underline crap still there.

I'm a little confused, Aaron. Does it allow for concealed carry in schools by those with a permit?

54 (f) Notwithstanding the provisions of section 18-3302C, Idaho Code, a
55 person or an employee of the school or school district who is authorized

1 to carry a firearm with the permission of the board of trustees of the
2 school district or the governing board.

I would agree with Idaho, after Vermount. I just got accepted to college in Oregon and will have to run the gauntlet there for a license. They do have a No Gun law in any school (including college) but backpacks are so large today. Idaho is getting on the "wagon" about it being a felony to have guns on school (any school) property. Right now, I can go to the local school (either one) and carry inside, on the grounds, etc.. Unfortunatly, our Gov. has decided that it is best to protect schools and "children" from gun violence by banning, making it a felony, to carry on school grounds. There has been many school shootings around us that have this law, Idaho hasn't had a school shooting... but then again, they didn't, until now, have that law. Now, I guess that Idaho schools are now open season, cause the thing that kept students/people from going on a rampage is now against the law. USP45usp

Churchill County, Nevada is pretty cool, as long as your rifle or handgun is in plain view, you can drive around with it loaded in your car, as far as a carry, you apply, you get. No prior record of course.

After living in Jersey for most of my life, I found Florida to be "heaven". Imagine being able to walk into a gunshop and buy a gun without having a government approved purchase permit which usually take a year to issue. Carrying is also pretty unrestrictive for those with a CWL -- which, by the way, is a weapons license not just a gun license which means that you can carry a whole bunch of weapons besides guns as long as they are concealed from ordinary sight.

Getting a license is no problem as long as you do not have a criminal record and there is no restrictions as to which gun or how many guns you can carry as long as they are concealed from ordinary sight -- some states reguire you to list the particular guns that you can carry concealed or limit you to only revolvers if you did not qualify with a pistol. Not so in Florida.

You are barred from carrying in the usually places such as schools, federal parks, government property, bars, etc. Being new here and compared to Jersey where you can only carry inside your home, I still find all of this pretty amazing.

From what I've read & heard, Vermont still seems to be the best and the cold weather is also very appealing to me (who ever heard of temps in the 80's in the cold of winter -- give me a good blizzard over a hurricane any day of the week). Anybody know of any technical computer jobs up there in Vermont? (I'm being completely serious about this)

Another nice thing about Florida is that if you have a permit there's no background check or waiting. They assume that a valid permit means you've already been checked out. I know people who got permits more to save time at the gun store than to carry.

David, there is no waiting but there IS a background check. Everytime I bought a gun, I was allowed to take it home the very same day because I have a CWL but it was called in every single time and once when the system was down, I couldn't make the purchase.

Really?? Not so in AZ or ID. Fill out the yellow form, pay your money, and away you go.

Hey, FUD! You came to the right place. I work for Vermont Department of Employment & Training, and have for 30 years!
Go to our statewide web site at www.det.state.vt.us
From there you can access all of the listings placed with us. Thee are definitely technical jobs, so check back often. You can also post a resume through the site. If you do, let me know who you are so I can find it. Then I can keep my antennae out.

Vermont is best hands down. Now I live in Indiana. Cost for a Four year permit is 25 bucks. Took me 3 weeks to get mine after I payed. No Saftey course or such stuff. (Although I took one anyway) The state does not restrict you from carrying anywhere but you are of course still subect to federal law. Places can NOT post signs saying you can not carry but if they see your weapon they can ask you to leave.
Kentucky is not bad either thier permits require a Saftey class and I think are more expensive. Also Locations can prohibit you for carrying. Both states allow the others CCW Holders to carry.

for FUD: a p.s.: also check out www.burlingtonfreepress.com for their classifieds. It's the biggest paper in the state's biggest labor market and they put out a Monday Job Market insert every week that is excellent. Good luck. Let me know if I can do anything for you.
