mine is about 3.5 to 4 inches with a springfield 1911 a1 mil spec.just seems sorry to me.sometimes i think i should toss it out with the rest of the trash.lets here it from you what does yours look like.and with what

I shoot a Colt CCO with both eyes open, target at 30 feet, and I squeeze the trigger as soon as the sights come back on target. After 50 rounds I usually wind up with an 8 inch circle of hits in the upper left quadrant.
The only way I can shoot tight groups of 2-3 inches is if I concentrate on each and every shot, and squeeze them off very slowly.
Personally, with any gun used for personal protection, I believe in getting first round hits, and subsequent hits, as close to point of aim as fast as possible.
Handgunning at 25 yards... 75 feet! Whew! I don't even bother anymore.
Compared to my groups, you are a friggin' combat ace!!

I can barely see a target at 25 yards. My eyes are just not that good. My CZ 97B (.45 ACP) shoots sub 1.5" groups with cheap ammo at 15-18 yards, and that is as far as I usually shoot a handgun. BTW when I use match (quality) ammo or quality reloads it will get sub 1" groups at 15-18 yards. I believe the gun is capable of much more accuracy, but I don't have the eyes or skill to reach the CZ 97's top accuracy potential.

But even though I shot "expert" with the 1911 every year I was in the army, I have NEVER had a 3 inch SEVENY FIVE FEET(?!!) group with a combat auto.
The BEST I have ever shot, benchrested, was with a 6 1/2" .357 blackhawk, and that was 2 1/2"-3" at 25 yards.
I just CANNOT imagine EXPECTING to get smaller than 3" groups at 25 yards - I mean, for crissake, the front post is about 5"+ at that range!!!
But hey, maybe its just me....

Of course that was a group of one....hey, if you can have a party of one in a restuarant, why not a group of one (just because you can't see my friends doesn't mean I can't still hear them!)?
I have to go with dogger on this one, I just don't think i will have time to bench my gun to tighten up groups if in a real situation...If I want to make tight, pretty groups, I use a rifle. I am quite happy if my hits are COM at 7-15 yds with a pistol....group..what is that?

it is with reloads.my sig p229 357 sig will drive tacks.but the 45 is just not up to snuff.plus its not even centered on the target.anybody know of a good sight pusher that will work on a baby eagle and a 1911 and a sig p229.the p229 is centered but i just hate to buy a sight pusher that wont work on it to
Can you be more specific. What did you make the reloads with? If this is range ammo, you're lucky to hit the target and have your gun in one piece on some of them

Here's my last target at 50 ft , offhand, at night using the headlights of my car, in a 20mph gusty evening shoot with different types of reloads. They range from 8.0gr of AA#5 under a 185gr XTP ,200grXTP, 200grLSWC, and 200gr FMJ-SWC to 9.3gr AA#5...

25 yds is a bit far for me. As others have stated, a normal "post sight" will cover a large part of the target at that range. If you want to see what you can do, come back to 20ft and shoot 50 then 30ft and 50 more then 40 ft and 50 more etc...and see if your confidence level doesn't come up a bit. Try using a 1"stick-on dot on a white sheet of printer paper(cheap and shows yer' shots)...
It's really not essential to have a tack driver to protect yourself and there are thousands of people that will tell you they can shoot a 2" group at 50yds...If you can really believe all that, you have a lot more faith than I do. I've not met more than 3 people than can shoot a 2" group at any distance, on demand. I've seen several that can do it occasionally if everything is just so...Don't know anyone that even cares to prove it though. They're more than happy to just be able to get up and "go" shooting...If you really don't like that pistol, sell it. There are thousands more out there and life is too short to get all balled up about the difference between a 2" and 3" group...especially at that distance with a handgun...Either one will fall within the realm of what the pistol is designed to do...

i tried 230 and 200 grain lead and fmj with unique and win 540 also tried bullseye.my sig's will go under 2 inches easy as will my redhawks.so i know i can shoot.i can hold my redhawk 2 inches at 50 yards from a seated position.maybe i could live with it if it was centered but low and right wont cut it.i wonder why i even shoot the 45 acp the bullets run a lot higher for it than they are for my 357 sig

i have done 3/8 for 6 six shots at 25 yards but it was with a sig p229 sport in 357 sig.i cant do it every time but i have done it.if i could stay under 3 with this 45 i would be happy

what can i do to make the mil spec shoot better.i shoot a 454 so i no im not flinching.shoot well under 2 inch groups with it at 25 yards with factory loads.anybody heard of this Briley Spherical bushing and will it help.even the regular p229 shoots great i have both love the 357 sig
KidColtOutlaw-Have several mil-specs, and while i really like em, they ain't target pistols. It appears their main limitation on accuracy (aside from their usually heavy triggers) is barrel hood fit and front barrel bushing fit. Short of buying a new barrel for one there are several things you might try.
find it's load preference through handloading or trying different commercial makes
fit a tighter barrel bushing
try a Wilson group gripper (personally never tried one)
let the crud build up around the outline where the barrel hood meets with frame. (while insuring extractor channel remains clean)
sell the milspec during this time when most decent used pistols are in demand, and buy a loaded model or Kimber. This may be less expensive alternative than buying and fitting match barrel.
