What should I do......?

I hope he lowered the hammer without incident during the adrenaline dump.

Haha so true, I had to do this once when I was inside and I was scared out of my mind. Don't want to have to replace hardwood floor. ;)

The 3 guys then drew knives out and started walking towards him before he turned around. What these fellas didn't know was that my buddy has a permit and pulled his shirt up to reveal the .38 revolver sitting on his hip. The guys stopped for a moment, looked at each other then figured it was a bluff and began walking to him again knives in hand. Well he pulls his .38 out and pointing towards the ground cocks the hammer back and says "I don't want any trouble you understand"??? Well the 3 of them freeze dead in their tracks, look at one another and then laugh saying it was only a joke and they didn't mean anything. So they turned around and walked away and went down another st corner. Lets hope that any altercation with a weapon ends this easily and

Three guys with knives coming at him? I'd say he was justified in minimally pointing the gun at them, possibly shooting depending on what happened after that. One of the biggest eye openers I had was watchng a demo of the Tueller Drill. People with knives are much bigger threats than generally thought.

In the Real World, I doubt if you'll have time to mull over your options and the legal consequences of your actions, whether you're a ninja or not.

Well as I mentioned before, when a threat arises you don't get the luxury of thought. You must react. As others can attest, you're training kicks in and you must act quickly and definitavely or it may mean a busted lip or your life! It's good to know that there are other MA's as well out there. In regards to my buddy. He had de-cocked no problem but later mentioned he needed to go change his shorts.... J/K. But did say his heart was thumping pretty hard. I do agree that as an Instructor I am held more accountable for my actions than the average Joe white belt. With the altercations I've been in so far I've used simple subdue techniques and joint manipulation. Works well for me and has never resulted in pulling my side-arm. Don't know if you guys have had different experiences though.......... Thoughts anyone......................?

Praise the Lord, I live in a more peaceful environment and have thus far not been in any altercations that have required an active response on my part.

Doesn't mean it won't happen on the walk home today, though.

I agree with you 20. I live in a pretty peaceful neighborhood as well with the occasional kids getting into trouble. But I'm always aware of my surroundings and a lot of times I just keep my little .32 Kel-Tec in my pocket, which is good because my girl-friend isn't even aware I have it on me. It is starting to get a little more built up around here though and with that comes more people.
