What semi-auto pistols do the Police carry in your area ??

I believe SWAT-team members choose handguns according to their personal taste (Glock 17 and 19 and FN Five-seveN)

Five-seveNs? Can individual officers buy them there? In the US they can only be purchased by a department, not an individual officer.

Well I guess if you're gonna commit crimes in Belgium it won't pay to wear your Kevlar :)

Fairfax County Police, some sort of Sig. They were talking about changing to another gun/caliber some time ago, but I don't know how far that's gone.

Virginia State Police carry Sigs in .357 Sig.

Fairfax County Sheriffs, and Loudoun County Sheriffs, carry Glocks.

US Park Police carry HK P7M8s and P7M13s.

Atlanta: S&W 5903
Fulton County: Glock 22
Dekalb: Beretta 92 or 96
Cobb County: Glocks
Smyrna PD: Glocks... imagine that!

Ben

RCMP: DAO S&W 5946 (officers w. smaller hands or concealment issues can choose a 3946 instead)
Ottawa PD: Glock 22
not sure about other Ontario PDs.

A wide variety. Lots of Glocks and Smith and Wessons. Lots. But then again, there are lots of Berettas and 1911 variants as well. Anything else is rare, for the most part, it seems.

OK, let me try this one.

Florida Highway Patrol: Beretta 96G. No others authorized for duty use (although some guys still carry the 92F). Off duty guns can be anything from .38/9mm to .45 that is DA and holds at least 5 rounds. No .41 or .44 Mags allowed.

Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement: Glocks of some sort. I do not know the model or calibers. I do not know off duty requirements.

Pinellas County Sheriff's Office: Beretta 92D Centurion. Any 9mm pistol on the approved list may be substituted for duty use, as long as you qualify with it. Almost anything can be carried off duty, as long as you qualify with it.

Clearwater Police Dept.: S&W 6906. No others authorized for duty use, as far as I know.

St. Petersburg Police Dept.: Glock 17. I do not know if anything else is authorized for duty use, but I've never seen a St. Pete officer with anything else.

If anyone knows what the Florida Dept. of Transportation issues it's LE officers, please post it here.

Port of Seattle: Street (HK P7M8s) SWAT (M13s)
City of Bellevue: HK USPs Compacts (40SW)
Most cities: Full-sized Glocks 40SW
Boeing Security: SW Sigma's - already sent all of them back once for "fixes" - POCs.

The older cops in Denver carry 1911's
The guys who come 15 minutes after we got robbed... carried what looked like Smiths.

PD in my town have Smiths in 40 S&W. Neighboring town has what has been referred to in the local anti-Second Amendment newspaper as "fully loaded Glock assault revolvers".

FN Five-seveN

Zundfolge,

only a minority of Belgian Police officers buys their guns on their own expenses. As a general rule all weapons are supplied and owned by the department (but kept by the individual officers as "their gun"). So SWAT-team officers can pick the FN Five-seveN but most of them don't as they are already provided with a FN P90 as standard weapon (along with other guns).

Caesar - untrue! The OLDER guys in Denver carry wheelguns, mostly S&W ;).

We're allowed to choose from:

H&K USP full or compact, or P7M8/M13
Glock (with NY trigger spring)
SIG
Beretta
Colt series 80 or newer 1911
Para-Ordinance
Smith three and four digit autoloaders

Those hired before 1989 can carry a full-size Smith or Ruger revolver if they so choose.

Off-duty/backup are the same, plus 2" J-frame revolvers, mini-Glocks, Colt Mustang/Pony, SIG P230/232, Beretta 84... I think that's it.

We can choose 9mm or .45, and it seems to be about half and half. For backup/off-duty we can also carry .38 Spc., .357 Mag (if you want THAT in your snubbie) and .380, and the wheelgunners can have .38 or .357 Mag... Issue ammo is all Speer Gold Dot.

I'd say about half the guys carry Glocks, and you see a lot of H&Ks, SIGs, 1911s, and Para's, in approximately that order.

The SWAT team carries mostly H&K .45's - as backup, of course.

I carry a full-size USP45, with an Airweight Centennial backup, and usually just the USP off-duty.

Louisville/Jefferson County

I've noticed that a lot of Louisville LEO's still carry revolvers. Some carry Rugers, some carry Taurus products, some carry Glocks. I think the rule is probably that they can carry anything they want. (Probably above a certain caliber, though.)
The Jefferson County guys all seem to carry .40 caliber Glocks. 22's, I believe. I was talking to one Jefferson County LEO who told me that he can "hit better" with Hydra-Shok "PD's". (I agree! That's what I use!)

In Milwaukee and Milwaukee County: Glock .40S&W
Small communities surrounding: varied, Sig 226; Glocks (mostly); Town of Pewaukee: Anything .38Spl. or larger. The Chief has a S&W .44Mag. Mountain Gun and places at the top in qualification. The department armorer carries a 1911 .45ACP (naturally)

San Bernardino County Sheriff's are issued Glock 21s. They can choose G17/G19s. Any other weapon must be approved by the firearms training division. Local PDs are by officer's choice. CHP is S&W autos in 40S&W. CHP may carry any 40cal backup.

Missouri Highway Patrol Glock 22, City Police Beretta model 96.

I work two smaller out counties and City and County in both choose thier own sidearms (9mm and up). 40 Glocks and SIG's are most popular followed by Ruger Auto's. Only know of one 45 in both Counties, a Sig 220. Just one guy left with a revolver,4 inch model 19.

Morgan:

Nice name first off. Second, thanks! I'd had a HELLUVA time trying to figure out what the department issue weapons were, cause of all that. I haven't seen one guy come in (to the restaurant) yet with a wheelgun. Had 3 guys come in all with 1911's once. Then just varied results the rest of the way. Haven't seen one P7 (I'd never let the guy leave the store). Speer Gold dot, great bullet choice. I presume 230gr in the .45's and 147 in the 9's?

Haven't seen any SWAT yet (thank god), the well armed guy did have an AR-15 mag, in addition to what looked like 4 spare handgun mags. Needless to say I was impressed. Thanks for the information I'd been curious.
