What rifle for $400

There's more varmints to be hunted, more of the year

than large game, and there's both IPSC and NRA rifle matches. So put a hundred bucks WITH grandpa's money, and BUILD an AR from a kit. Model One sales (ad in SGN) sells their uppers already assembled, so there is no need of special tools, and their single stage trigger group is just $110, which you can add later. Ditto the scope, the flattop, a .22 conversion, a .22 "upper", luminous sights, cheekpc, ambi safety, etc. When you are done, you will have a rifle that CAN do it ALL, really, not just some "sport only" bolt. The .223 is quite capable of humanely taking deer to 100m, with proper ammo, and good angle chest shots.

There is that.... but the more I think about it the more I would like to just get the bolt gun. As a couple ppl on this site know, I am kinda spoiled. I am prolly getting an AR from Mom (what a cool mom) this spring. She just doesn't have the cash flow to do it right now. (They recently moved, and are getting settled in, still one house on the market, etc.) The way I see it I can take down pigs and other things with the bolt gun in Fla., and when I get the AR shoot all the other lil varmints. Plus I have always wanted a bolt rifle in a caliber other than .22. There's something about them that just puts a big ole :D on my face.

Thanks for your input, and trust me, I'll never quit adding to the collection. This is just the beginning.
