What rifle did you regret buying and why?

A "Mitchell Arms" I think it was called, in .22 mag - a turnbolt. There was a REASON they were being blown out at $125 in the early 2000s.

A Brazilian Mauser in .30-'06 - if the bore is darker than the pits of carlsbad caverns, don't buy (an early lesson for me many years ago).

I'm sure a few others, but those stand out.

Oh, there was a Chinese single shot break action .177 pellet gun which was junk, also. On the whole, not that many which fit the criterion though ("regretted"). A lot more regret with handguns than rifles.

My Saiga .223 20". I wish I had bought it in 16", or just gotten 7.62x39. The 16" version is more accurate due to less deviation at the tip from barrel whip, and the .223 barrel is just an underbored .30 caliber barrel so it's VERY heavy. I know this now, but didn't at the time.

Model 700 Rem in 7MM rem mag. Way to much recoil and never did shoot all that well, paid too much and sold if for too little. Nice looking rifle but not for me.

if we're talking any rifle the biggest one was an AK47... Piece of hot garbage. sold it, never looked back.

if we're only talking bolt, lever and, pumps, a French MAS36 would probably qualify.

Oh let's see...

Marlin 60 jammomatic.
Mosin M38. Absolutely pointless.
Yugo SKS. Too much crap on the barrel.
HiPoint carbine. Broke four times.

I'm thinking the only one I ever regretted buying was a Ruger Mark III hunter. I wanted to love that gun to no end but it might have been the only lemon they ever sold but believe me it was a lemon.
I solved that problem by getting a Smith and Wesson model 41. It is unbelievable.

My Marlin 336SS.......sssss

Hi Folks,

clearly my Marlin 336ss (Remlin). I always wanted to have one, and...

it came out of the box with a rear sight way out of line and a crack in the rear stock.

I've attached winged skinner sights (front and rear) and hat the stock glued since the shop I had bought it from came up with a non-fitting English-style straight replacement stock.

After my second time at the range, and an approximate total of 40 shots on that rifle, a screw stood out the receiver. I tightened it and checked all the other screws. The second one I touched broke right away. It's the loading gate screw and now the action is blocked.

And now the best thing comes: The shop I've bout the rifle here in Austria from went out of business... Gr-rrr!

At the moment the official Austrian Marlin reperesantation guys are looking at it. If only I had bought a second Blaser R8 with a 52cm barrel for the purpose (stalking and woods)..., or just a good old Marlin made before the Remlin days...

Have a níce weekend,
PB

I purchased a Romanian SKS. I was really excited because they are somewhat rare and it appeared to be in pretty good shape with almost all matching numbers. After probably 250 rounds I lost interest because I couldnt do better than 6in groups at 50 yards. That's not even minute of deer at 100 yards. Also being 6'2" with longer than average arms, it didn't fit well.

I ended up making money on that rifle, so I guess its hard to regret buying it :). I wouldnt mind replacing it with an AK some day. The 7.62x39 is a neat round.

My M1A! It not cheap to shoot and I can't put it down!:D

Actually a Rossi 92 I think? 357 magnum, super short and handy, but the sights were junk and I couldn't get it sighted in for anything. I also picked up a sporterized Mauser in 7mm (I really like the 7x57 cartridge) that I couldn't get to shoot worth a damn. Both of those were sold quickly.

Ndking, mine had a flattened rear sight leaf spring. I bet that was the cause of your troubles. If the sight was loose it would have wrecked your accuracy. I wound up replacing mine with one off an Albanian SKS.

Remington 742 Delux grade, pretty stock with cheek piece and monte carlo comb, forearm with black wood tip: Bang, jam, bang, jam, bang, jam..@#%*!! Been in the safe for 20 years.

WASR-10
Gave $250 for it brand spank'n new back in 2003. Ordered for me NIB by a GS owner that recommended it to me, while I was looking at buying a mini-30 he had. While it would tick away like a Swiss watch, either after being filled with wet sand and drug behind a horse down a gravel road, or submersed in a slop/mud mess and being run over by an Abrams tank.....Loading the magazines and basically doing anything with the rifle was like playing with razor blades. Also it was minuet of milk jug at 25 yards on its best day.....it was a WASR do I really need to keep going? :)

My daughters Weatherby Vangard in .243 Win.

1) Darn thing weighed 8lb 5oz according to postage scale. Way too heavy for a sporter barrel with synthetic stock.

2) Stock forearm pressed against the barrel in some places, gap in others. (I free floated barrel myself, which brought groups closer)

3) Weatherby says 1.5" groups at 100 yards. Which it did from day 1. With the first 3 shots. After cool down period (walking to target and marking shots) next set of 3 shots would group at 3". Next group 6". Following "group" would get 1-2 hitting paper. (note after free floating barrel would get 3/4-1" groups first 3 shots, but would still open up after that)

4) Remounted scope, swapped scopes. Groups would still open up as barrel warmed up.

5) Left a bad feeling for me for the .243 Win cartridge, even though deep down I know it's not a bad cartridge and has fine long range accuracy. For me I'll end up thinking long and hard if I ever find a good deal on a .243 again. :(

I wasn't upset at all when daughter traded it even up for a new bow. ;)

The jury is still out on my new Remington 783 in .308. I haven't developed a load for it yet and maybe that is the deal but I haven't had a really tight group yet. I've also had to do a bunch of work to the factory mags to get them high enough in the stock that the bolt would actually reach a cartridge in order to strip it from the magazine to chamber.

I've regretted buying too many to list here, especially in my younger years, but don't regret selling any of them.

Why keep one if it's not fun or interesting? Get rid of those dogs or get them fixed!!!
