What Powder Do You Use?

vestal virgin veils (say that five times real quick)
Just got back from the clinic (gettin' my lips untangled) :) and, while I've only shot Pyrodex and real black, I wouldn't think twice about shooting the rest of them. Bearing in mind of course, that 777 is a tad more powerful by volume.

Why would you want to spend big bucks on sub
when you can make your owen bp? as i recall
you are the expert on makeing your owen.

Mykeal,
The Graf and Sons label is Schuetzen repackaged. The list you posted is a little misleading as the Haz Mat fee is $20.00 for up to 50lbs not ea. pound. And Graf and Sons does list Goex Express@ 19.95 a pound same as Swiss.Even if you deduct the Haz Mat prices from your list regular Goex is only 13.99 not nearly $20.00 as you listed.

Gra'f's charges a hazmat fee of $22.50 per shipment up to 20 lbs, then $45 per shipment from 21 to 50 lbs.

If you order one pound the cost will be $13.59 + $22.50 for the hazmat fee + $4.50 h&s = $40.59 total, and obviously $40.59 per pound.

If you order 5 lbs the cost will be $67.95 + $22/50 for the hazmat fee + $4.50 h$s = $94.95, or $18.99 per pound.

If you order 10 lbs the cost will be $135.90 + $22.50 for the hazmat fee + $4.50 h&s = $162.90, or $16.29 per pound.

If you order 25 lbs the cost will be $339.75 + $45 for the hazmat fee + $4.50 h&s = $389.25, or $15.57 per pound.

Those are the numbers shown in my chart. If you disagree, simply click on the Add to cart button under one of the Goex choices and vary the number of cans on the cart page.

So I took out my Pietta 1858 Buffalo Brass frame .44 12" barrel ROA tonight and shot about 50 rounds through her. 15~20 grain loads of 777 (it was the only stuff they had at like 4 different gun shops I looked at!) and .454 "Pure Lead" Hornady balls. I had a blast! Literally! My friend came along and brough his Glock 34 competition gun and his Beretta, but was having a lot of fun with my new gun as well We were both able to shoot tighter groups on the '58 without even adjusting the site from the factory at 25 yards! He was amazed, and so was I.

Great night, and I'm really very pleased with my cheap Cabellas C&B Wheel Gun. She definitely surprised us both, in a good way.

PS: the 1 lb of 777 3F was 28 bucks after tax here in San Diego.

Are there any suggestions on what powder NOT to use?

I had some really bad Elephant Powder a number of years ago. Fouled the barrel on a .54 Cal Pedersoli Tryon rifle so bad you had to clean it after two or three shots. But.......................they don't make Elephant anymore.
