What pocket pistol do you recommend?

When I can't carry anything else, the P32, at 8oz. loaded, is an always gun.
(To me there is not a lot of difference between .32 and .380. If I knew I was going to a fight, my AR would be in my pocket. :) )

If you are going to put something that weighs a pound in your pocket, the Kahr PM9 is supposed to be released soon.

How big are your pockets?

I can carry a P-32 and spare mag in a modified Uncle Mike's No. 1 Pocket Holster is just about any pants--frontpocket or back. The rig is almost exactly the same size and shape as a wallet.

Alot of Mk-9 fans here its a fantastic little gun.

I agree its a little heavy for pocket carry, I do carry mine daily in a kramer or allessi pocket holster, It does not work well in softer pants/shorts but I buy my pants/shorts thick jean like material and it works well and the weight is not an issue for me, after a few days I honestly stopped noticing it, and a thick belt keeps my pants up.

That being said....I had a kahr P-40 for 4 days. This was a fantastic piece, kahr quality/fuction all around only polimer and much lighter. Excellant shooter also. My dealer got one he thought was leagle in my state, I snapped it up and yesterday he called me very upset because he found out his distributor gave him bad info, he was very woried about his buisiness/license etc. So I returned the piece with his promise that my next gun will be at his cost, still sucks, but fair I guess. Hopfully kahrs will be legle here soon, kahr say's there working on it.

When/If kahrs become legle here my next pocket piece with out question will be a PM-9/PM-40 or P-40 covert.. ;)

Thank you for the thorough and comprehensive info!

Sounds like there a lot of great options...I am very interested in expanding my search to be sure to target pistols that I can shoot for fun as much as to tote for carry. In addition, I was pleased to hear of the many good options that include 9's, 357 sigs, and even 40's.

Anyone have experience with H&K p7's for this purpose. I've touched a few at gun shows but its been awhile. The photos I've seen make it hard to tell if they are small enough to make it into this category. The price alone may put them out of sight anyway!?;)

The P7 is probably a tad large for pocket carry, though I've never owned own. My choice was the MK9 -- a great little pistol, and I'm starting to regret selling it. But the upcoming PM9 solves the one problem I've ever experienced with my trusty MK9 -- weight. As others have noted, it's not ideal for pocket carry with all pants. Dockers, jeans, etc. are fine with a good belt. The PM9 promises to be a real "always" gun in a "real" caliber. I'd still prefer a .45 auto, but you can't really pocket one.

I own a P7M8 and I would have to say that while small it is too big for pocket carry. It is *a bit* smaller than the 239, and narrower. A good rig for this gun is the Milt Sparks Versa Max II.

As far as pocket carry is concerned, I like the idea of the Kahr MK9 or PM9. Full power in a tiny package makes us all happy.

Pretty hard to beat the Kel-Tecs as far as size and weight are concerned, though, if you don't mind carrying a mouse gun.

I totally recommend the Kahr MK9, great little gun. A little heavy, but very accurate and reliable. Just wear a good belt to hold up your pants.

For my pocket...

It's either a Guardian stuffed full of MagSafe's or my Seecamp with Gold Dots. I have an RJ Hedley "back pocket" holster for each. The Hedley back pocket models eliminate the weight problem and the draw is FAST! You try, you see! Good price too.

Stoic,

Shoot a scandium first, then think about how it relates to your NAA.

My NAA .380 stings after a few dozen shots, not nice to be sure. But still all COM shots. Even with a time-pressured reload (new mag).

Just my personal experience: anything more than a couple of 38+p in a scandium are too much, and accuracy is out the window.

On the other hand, a PD has a greater intimidation factor than a NAA.

Carry them both maybe? ;)

Hmm...some folks like the CZ-83 in .380 or 9z18 mak.
I have one, I can't carry in our "enlightened" state (MO).
It my be a bit big compared to the mouse guns you are considering...but it's a great shooter and I can vouch for it's reliability & accuracy.

Clemson, I'm sorry that I overlooked your S&W recommendation.;) :D

DanP,

I haven't shot a Scandium yet.:( I guess that's the problem. However, I've fondled a few at the gunstore. They are so light! This is what's attracting me like a moth to a flame. Lighter and more powerful than the NAA. For me, the weight of a pocket pistol is the key factor to making it fit in the pocket just right. This makes the Kel-Tec an attractive option over the Guardian.

Stoic,

They are tempting, absolutely. The minute you hold one you go "ooh, naah, you are kidding".

Particularly for me, a revolver guy.

Personally I don't feel that I could hit COM after the first round, if at all, in a tense situation with that particular gun.

But then again that is just one opinion.

When I can't/won't carry my Glcok 27, I carry a Beretta Tomcat. It is _VERY_ accurate, has enough weight to make shooting it comfortable, and is small enough to tuck away and forget about it.

Central,

I gave up on the PocketLite .380 Colt. I carried one for a long time. It was reasonably accurate, lightweight, fit right in the pocket in the little custom holster that also held the spare mag. I had it full of the 90 grain HydroShocks. Trigger was not as bad as some I have heard of, and it was a joy to carry.

Well, a joy except for one thing. The few times I felt I might have to actually USE the darn thing, I felt, in every case, that I just did not have enough gun.

So I went back to the old concept of "dress for success", and carrying a 1911 or a Browning HP .40, or a Smith .44 Mag, or a, well you get the picture. No more little guns here.
