What pistol for this purpose?

Sounds like a Firestar "Plus"........ pre 1998 model...
After that they are 10 round max.

14 rounds.....3.4" barrel....9MM.....Composite ...with a grip long enough to make you happy.

Find them in Broker, American and AuctionArms.

$300 to $350.

The Glock 19 does have a double-stack magazine, but in my opinion it just isn't that much thicker than the singles. I would recommend it as a first choice.

I also used to own a Sig P239, and if you simply can't get around that double-stack mag then this would be the pistol I would put forward. It is simply an amazing little firearm. Probably the most accurate handgun I have ever owned, despite its small size. I used to shoot rings around guys firing Colt Gold Cups. The only possible drawback to that gun for a novice is that the bore axis is pretty high, and that means a little more felt recoil and slightly slower followup shots if you're talking CCW.

I've never fired a Kahr, but I've also never talked with a disappointed owner of one either. If reputation means anything (and to me it does), then those are excellents options as well.

Lastly, I'd like to ask: What have you tried at the range? Personally, I really like getting good advice, but I'd never buy something that I haven't tried (or at least something VERY similar).

Walther p-99
About the size of a Glock 19
Adjustable grip.
Very accurate.
With a 9mm...there are
hi-caps available.

Since you said under 30oz, then I vote Kahr K9. If you had said under 20, then P9 would be the ticket, but the P9 (had one) has more recoil than even a Kahr MK9 (have one), which is a couple ounces lighter than the K9.

The Kahr grip is under an inch wide, short enough trigger reach for even the smallest of adult female hands, holds 7+1 rounds of the required 9mm, is single stacked, VERY accurate, SUPER reliable, and due to it's 25oz weight, tames the recoil QUITE well. There is a "Lady Kahr" option with an easier to operate slide and slightly lighter trigger pull.

The 3913 "LadySmith" is another one that fits your requirements, but having rented one twice while trying to find the BEST pistol for my wife, it just didn't feel (to her) as comfortable as the Kahrs. The grip surface is wider, and the grips are plastic. I think the Kahr's K series super comfy rubber grip is part of what makes it so pleasant to hold on to.

Taurus Millinium... :barf: trigger. Double column mag, about the same width as a Glock 26, only small hands can get all fingers on the grip.

FireStars - Had one in 9mm, and although I ABSOLUTELY loved it for it's size, it did stovepipe every few magazines, and if it does weigh less than 30oz, it isn't by much. The Kahr is lighter.
