what model number was the .357 trooper by S&W?

Oh dear oh dear...

If your friend has an S&W FACTORY nickel job on his Model 28, it's a pretty rare gun.

If it's an aftermarket nickel job, then the gun's worth about what a Model 28 would be worth normally.

At a gun show today I saw TWO four-inch Highway Partrolmans (Partrolmen?) in nickel. (I once carried as a sheriff and still have a six-inch blued version. A great gun.) Both were in the $350 range. The nickel plate isn't the "softer" looking silvery type you see on older guns, but rather a shiny "steely" gray that looked just like highly polished stainless. Would have been tempted to strike a deal on one of them if I hadn't spent my money on an unfired Model 25-5 in a presentation box. Oh well. Maybe next month.

Bods......if they were 28s and shiny like polished stainless, the plate job was non factory.

Model 27 looks a lot like 28 and they were available in high polish nickle.

Don't think these were 27's since they were barrel stamped "Highway Patrolman". I have a 27 and a 28 (both in blue) and always check out N-frame .357's I see at shows. Neither of the ones I saw today showed signs of wear, but both wore rubber aftermarket grips and had been fired . Maybe someone had a pair nickeled and now they've been sold and haved popped up on two different tables? I didn't realize that either was a 28 until I picked them up and read the barrels. Very "steely" looking nickel. Maybe some other Forumite saw them today at the Washington Arms Collectors show in Puyallup and can comment.

spent part of today talking to my ol' sarge , he said that the guns they had where factory nickled , but said it looks like someone stamped the isp name in the barrel (said and see's die like marks and crooked) wondering if some took a blued gun and stamped it then at a later point had it plated by s&w?could this be? says he know where ther is another one that I might be able to get for around 3-400 , Its mostly sentimental not collectors value I'm looking at. (the gun he owns is the one I qualified with ).
