What makes a good AR?

stuff I want, like the PWS FSC.

Make sure you try one out before you buy if you can.

They are LOUD.

My brother had one on his SCAR, it came off after the 1st shooting session.;)

If it doesn't bother you, it does reduce the muzzle jump quite a bit.

Where do I go to try one??? That would be ideal. I wish I could write all the companies and try their stuff for free, then buy the parts I want and send the rest back.

Basically what I did was check out 3 gun sites and post, google "what is the best xxx part" and choose from there. I had no clue where to start looking for civilian gun parts.... This is a lot harder than going to my armorer and saying "give me my rifle, number 43..."

Louder than a 45-70 with a 20 inch barrel shooting 525 grn pile drivers?

You said you were going to set it up for 3-gun. Someone at one of those matches probably has one. Civilian SCARs come from the factory with one, if you know someone who has one or a range that rents them you could try it out there.

If you are used to the plain old A2 that you have in the military, you might get a rude awakening when trying the PWS. Unless you aren't bothered by blast/noise. It bothers me.

It was way worse than a NEF with a 20" bbl 45-70 shooting 405gr soft points. I haven't shot any 525 gr rounds to compare.

In my experience it is like being on the wrong end of the rifle. :D
