I decided to post this for some lurking anti.
My decision was multifactorial:
I am a medical professional and work in ER's. In the ED I am currently in, 3 of my colleages were shot, in the ED, a few years ago. We currently have NO dedicated armed security in the ED.
I also interface frequently with the prisoners in county jail. It was a sobering experience to meet so many human predators- the world(your wife, loved ones, belongings) is quite litteraly their oyster.
I also see the victims of crime on a daily basis. I have been told so many times "I gave them my wallet but they shot me any way" or "I just did what he wanted" by victims with life threatening injuries. Once you submit to the attack your life, virtue, and future are at the whim of a predator.
Currently I have a disability which precludes me from being able to run. My trigger finger works just fine.
I had grown up around guns and felt comfortable with them so I went to gunsite and started shooting IPSC to get comfortable with defensive shooting. I now have my CCW and don't think I'll go unarmed again for my reasons above and those everyone else posted.
How can you not believe defense of your life and your loved ones is not a right that transends any piece of paper?
