WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO CARRY?

Frontsight;

You got that right, Don't trust anyone;
at any time, until they have proven beyond
a shadow of a doubt that they are trustworthy.

Held up twice. Once with a machete and
another time with a .45 . Last one thought I was gonna be shot. you just don't know the feeling of helplessness when there is no recourse other than to hope that there is at least a little humanity left in the scumbag holding a gun to your face and having a hate in his eyes that you have no idea how it got there. From the muzzle end those large calibers look like caves when you are 'under the gun'.

Law enforcement has no obligation to protect my family, or my self. Best case scenario, BG gets wallet and jewelry, worst case scenario,my self, or a loved one loses their life. I have a wife, three children, and a loving disfunctional family. I have a lot to lose...

I have decided to carry (Even though it is illegal here) because I read all these stories and would prefer NOT to have one of my own to tell. How many potential TFL'rs are there who diddn't live to tell their tale? Who would carry if they had only lived through the first violent encounter they had?

An ounce of prevention...

We (wife and I) got our Texas CHL when we got transfered back to Houston for the 2nd time. We got transfered out after the "first" machine gunning in our nice quiet suburban neighborhood by the local gangs.

For about five years my family has owned and operated a little restaurant which used to be located at the entrance of an old, abandoned hotel (It sounds about how it was, but at the time it didn't seem so bad). This hotel was still in use, to be fair, by several local vagrants. Now, none of us were ever hurt or threated by anyone of these bums, but on several occassions we had to deal with them coming into the restaurant and not leaving as quickly as we'd like and we did have several break-ins. My father sent one of these burglars to jail and when he was up for parole was when I decided to get a gun. I dragged my brother along for the ride but the parents haven't hopped on the well-armed badwagon yet.

After 25 years as a police officer and the last ten as a parole officer I know whats out there, and what they will do. My Commander has saved my butt more than once.

SHOOT,COMMUNICATE AND MOVE OUT !

I decided to post this for some lurking anti.

My decision was multifactorial:

I am a medical professional and work in ER's. In the ED I am currently in, 3 of my colleages were shot, in the ED, a few years ago. We currently have NO dedicated armed security in the ED.

I also interface frequently with the prisoners in county jail. It was a sobering experience to meet so many human predators- the world(your wife, loved ones, belongings) is quite litteraly their oyster.

I also see the victims of crime on a daily basis. I have been told so many times "I gave them my wallet but they shot me any way" or "I just did what he wanted" by victims with life threatening injuries. Once you submit to the attack your life, virtue, and future are at the whim of a predator.

Currently I have a disability which precludes me from being able to run. My trigger finger works just fine.

I had grown up around guns and felt comfortable with them so I went to gunsite and started shooting IPSC to get comfortable with defensive shooting. I now have my CCW and don't think I'll go unarmed again for my reasons above and those everyone else posted.

How can you not believe defense of your life and your loved ones is not a right that transends any piece of paper?
