what kind of group 223 rem

I mostly agree with Ozzieman, although my 1:12 barrel likes 50 gr best and it can shoot 55gr with very good accuracy.

I am uncomfortable loading bullets to touch the lands as I have read that that can cause pressure spike but I am not an expert on that. I bet there are experts on this forum though:rolleyes: Ozzie can you direct me to info on that or what is your experience with it?

223 is just a very shooter friendly and reloader friendly cartridge. I have not tried this but I would not be surprised if the 223 could deliver decent accuracy using a soda straw for a barrel:D

I've been reloading the cheap Walmart .223 Federal Value Pack. It's on its fourth reload. I have not encountered the problems others have mentioned on here.

Don't be surprised if your bolt gets etched around the firing pin from gas leakage from around the primer. You might not of had any problems yet with the Federal brass but you will. The problems with Federal brass are very well docunented and not only on this board. So now I have to ask, is a $.02 piece of brass worth the chance?

@Tim R - I'll check them the next time I run them through my AR15. I'll look for those documented problems with Federal cases and decide whether your 2 cents is worth it.

Searched this forum for documented problems - some people report having problems with different caliber. .223 was not mentioned. I think I'll keep using mine for reloading until the primer feels loose to me.

I have a 1:12 twist 223 that would not shoot 55 grain bullets very well. It was OK at 100 yards but fell apart by 200. I found that 40 grain bullets work the best and so now I am experimenting with different brands of bullets in 40 grain and different powders behind them. I have been very happy with the v max but I've also ordered some sierra blitzking and just picked up a pound of varget to try against my winchester 748. Tinkering is fun. Finding a great combo is even better!
