What is your "RED DAWN" rifle?

If the Chinese invade or if Al Gore (or some other future liberal) tears apart the consitiution, turns against US citizens and starts confiscating everyones guns, what rifle are you planning to lock and load? I am thinking about getting a "RED DAWN" rifle for the day I pray will never come. Here are my thoughs. My dream rifle is the Springfield M1A. Wow, what a great gun. Unfortunately the cost is way out of my league. On the other end is the SKS. I expect to get a C&R soon and have my eye on one of the Romanians from SOG. Reliability, excessive wear and lack of accuracy are concerns. The AR-15 is a candidate too but expensive. Plus, I am not impressed with it's ballistics beyond 200 yards. Is there anything like the M1A that cost significantly less? What is your battle rifle of choice? Thanks, -martin6

How about this....

Once you get your C&R, DON'T sign it...make lots of copies, and sign them when you contact a distributor. (Distributors cannot accept a photo copied signature, and if you sign your "real" liscense, you're screwed.) Anyway, once you get it, get in touch with a lot of companies that carry C&R rifles (CDNN, SOG, AIM to name a few) and have them send you a catalog. Start looking at the C&R bolt rifles in .308 or .30-06...they would be hard to beat for the money if you get a good one...

Just an Opinion,
Get something inexpensive and functionally (the sks is a good candidate). Store up a few hundred rounds of quality Ammo. That way for four or five hundred bucks you're set for any feasable doomsday feasable.
Then, if you want a M1A start saving the cash.
Basically, I started with 30-30 and 400 rounds of ammo. After a few years saving and exchanging my older battle rifles for newer battle rifles I finally got my "RedDawn Special".
Now my "Battle Rifle" is a M1A that wears a BM-59 folding stock and has a 20" barrel. A sort of "brush gun" or "scout rifle", very handy, fullpower battle cartridge, yet doesn't kick like a mule.
Good luck on yours!

My battle rifle would be my bolt action remington in 270. Great for the long shots and I can use it to "acquire" whatever weapons the enemy is using. That way I dont have to worry about ammo, cuz the bad guys will be carrying it.

My Ak-47 in 5.56MM.

Pistol is a stock Colt 1911 in .45 ACP.

Sniper Rifle is a 7 Magnum sporter weight Savage 110.

The rifle I shoot best in a hurry is my Winchester 94AE in .44 magnum. 9 rounds of .44 ought to be enough to take out a Kenworth, let alone a camouflaged paratrooper...

I believe I would choose my Browning BLR in 308Win.Resonably fast to shoot, I have several clips for it.Good chance for finding ammo.Enough range for most encounters yet fast up close.Anything else I will secure from dead enemy personal when I can.I live in a rural area and I don't think firepower is the answer because you can't carry enough ammo to keep you going long. One shot one kill than move or you won't last long anyway.I would also want my Wilson Combat 45 auto and several clips for close in.

Rifle

my Bushie Plastic Fantastic ar-15 carbine

12- 30 round mags and about 2000 in reserve on strippers.

Pistol(s)

a tt-33 tokarev in 7.62x25 with a spare 9mm barrel+mags
half dozen mags for each caliber and about 200 rounds to back them

(if russian invasion, then makarov same ammo load)

and My pre-ban M-11 in a shoulder holster with a 20 round mag and 6- 32 round mags in reserve

However if it is just a run of the mill apocalipse,
i would pick my marlin 336 in 35 remington, and my future 44 magnum wheelgun, and a double barreled flintlock 10 ga in reserve(when all ammo goes bye bye)

"RED DAWN"....

AR15,.... only way to go... why, probably because it's a great all-around,...and availability of ammo,..from dead "bad guys"... ;)

Red Dawn?

These kind of threads are counterproductive to the cause..

but lets say mutant zombie bikers invaded the mile high city.. ;)

I'm pretty sure the mile hi militia would repel the hoards with shotguns and deer rifles over hi capacity poddle shooters and C&R guns.

handguns are nearly useless against your average zombie biker.. aim for the head and shoot it twice.

12 guage 870 with rifle sights and a 7 shot tube
45 auto pistol with 'several' magazines

Dr.Rob, its about a 12 hour drive for me to get to Denver, do you think that you could save some Radioactive Zombie Mutant Bikers for me?

L1A1 FAL, w/ 3x9 scope, 5 20 round magazines.
SA 1911, 4 mags.
Rem 870 in the backseat.

Ahem...

I did not mean to say that MY setup was a C&R rifle...but obviously Martin6 was looking to "go cheap." Hence my recommendation. I wouldn't tell what my wetup is.

My SKS was cheap and is reliable, but for just a few bucks more I would choose my SAR-1 as an option. Can't wait to get a Kobra for it!

Red Dawn???

Do I get to curl up in front of a campfire with Lea Thompson??

Sign Me Up!!

JohnDog (ps - I'd bring my Remington 700 VS)

All in the Family

Me: DSA imported Argie FAL topped with Leupold VX2 2-7 scope on a DSA mount.

Wife: AR15

Daughter: SKS

Son: Savage in .308

Remington model 700 30-06 for long range "sniping". As bou3 has stated I can snipe and then take the weapons from the enemy. If I get an Gordon Tech AK-47 that will be my Red Dawn rifle but for now I'm going to stick with the 30-06 for long range accuracy.

Since wifey would kick my a** if I bought another gun it's going to be my Mini-14 with 30 round PMI's. Best Regards, J. Parker

blue dawn

Rifle: Gordon Tech SLR100 AK-47
Pistol: HK USP.45

If there is going to be .223 and 9mm ammo from the BGs, I'll just grab thier firearms as well.
