What is your preferred big game hunting bullet?

Nosler Parition!

I have taken whitetails, mule deer, mountain sheep, black bear, grizzly, caribou, elk, red stag, and all kinds of african plains game with the partition and in every case, from the smallest to largest critter, the bullet performed perfectly....they are also usually plenty accurate.....some of the more recent bullets may be better but you can always depend on the Nosler parition.

I've used the Nosler ballistic tips many times on whitetails, and they've yet to fail me. If I hunted heavier game, I'd probably go to the Partition.

Mostly Core Lokts

For .30-'06, .35 Rem, .30-30, it's mainly CoreLokts. For 6.5 Swedes, it's either Trophy Bonded Bear Claws, CoreLokts, or Hornady Interlocks. The .45-70s kill with whatever you put in them.

I started out with Speers and Hornady's and both have served me well on whitetails and the one mulie buck that I shot. I guess that my preferred hunting bullets are the 105 grain Hot Cor for my 243Win and the 165 grain Hot Cor for my 30-06. Right now I'm experimenting with Remington 180 grain Core Lokt's for my 30-06, CT 140 grain Ballistic Tips for my 7mmWSM, Remington 185 grain Core Lokt's for my 8mmMauser, and my newest toy, Nosler 200 grain Partitions for my 300WinMag. I don't really know how much difference some of these load developments will provide but it's sure fun playing with them!

Nosler 150 gr Ballistic tips in my .308s. All the deer I've shot were DRT, except one where I screwed up. She only ran 30 yards, though.

BTW, don't try to save the shoulders. They just run.

Another vote for the old standby...........Sierra Game Kings.

In my 25-06 and in my wifes .243 they do a fine job on the small deer here in Fl.

In my old .35 Rem it seems that the standard Rem. Corelock is about perfect.

Of course we're in the thick woods of North Fl. and the shots are almost never over 50 yards, most under 25, so if you're shooting 200-300 yards as the guys out west do I'd defer to their opinions on that.

I can say that using Silver Tips on Deer is not a good idea if you like the meat. I stopped using them after the mess they made of one of my deer. I have used Noslers for years now with great success.

I used 180 gr. Partitions and Fail Safes in my .300 Win Mag hunting mulies and elk, but used 150 gr. SST's and Scirrocco's in my .308 Win. when hunting anything smaller than that.

Its difficult to state that one bullet is noticeably better at toppling big deer than another. Hornady Interlock deserves a second look.
