What is your favorite platform for a SD handgun?

SAO revolver - Traditional hammer cocked SA

SA auto - Traditional SA hammer cocked or firing pin fired SA w/ safety

True DAO - Long constant DA pull at all times.

Pre-set DA or LDA - Action where the firing pin is held partially cocked for reduced trigger pull (no second DA pull).

Pre-set DA hybrid - First pull is partially cocked, second can be full DA is gun fails to fire.

DA/SA - Capable of both DA or SA operation at all times (with ot without safety).

My favorite would have to be DA/SA with no safety. I like having the option of the long safe first pull for carrying or the quick and light SA pull for accuracy. I also like the pre-set DA or LDA triggers like on Kahr.

True DAO, in a revolver with a concealed hammer - Taurus M650 or S&W equivalent.

My carry guns are TDA Sigs. Lot of folks don't like the DA first shot, but with practice, it's not a problem. With the DA first shot, I feel like I will have to make a conscious effort to pull the trigger, even in a stressful situation.

I voted for the dao. I don't have a carry gun yet since I don't carry. but if I did then my choice would be a dao hammerless pre lock all steel s & w in 357.

Ruger P97DC .45ACP

Of all my pistols (which are many) my HD pistol is a Ruger P97DC in .45ACP, it is a DA / SA de-cock only with no safety that I keep loaded with Remington Golden Sabers with one in the tube.

For CCW I really like DA/SA with sweep down safety/decocker (HK Variant 1), but if pressed to choose only one of the "traditional" methods, I'd choose SAO, but I wouldn't complain if I had a good DA/SA action (eg, SigSauer). I am also fine with a striker system ala Glock though...

I'm torn, because true DAO makes the most sense for me whether it be a semi-auto or a revolver (although, a DA/SA revolver is a DAO if you choose to use it that way). All but one of my carry weapons are DAO and with no safety on board (e.g., Rohrbaugh and XD9SC).

I'm torn because the only other mode that makes sense for me (and which I carry as well) is the 1911 in cocked & locked readiness. For me, the 1911 in DefCon1 is just as safe and immediately ready for use as any of the DAO handguns.

So I voted "DAO only" only because I have more guns made like that than I have 1911's. But I'd like to have voted for "SAO auto (safety)" as well.

I abhore the DA to SA mode of some semi's such as the 5906, etc. It makes me shift my grip in a way that would be (for me) detrimental in a real SD situation.

I'm with you, Penguin.

Can't wait for a 226 or 229 Elite Stainless. Whichever I choose will be my first semi pistol and will share stable space with my three DA/SA revolvers.

Right now, DAO and SA w/safety are tied for first place. That does not surprise me, but the fact that DAO only is doing so well (second place at the moment) does surprise me a little bit. DAO is my second favorite platform. :)

I didn't vote because you didn't specify between a DA/SA revolver (always DA unless the hammer is manually cocked) or a DA/SA auto (DA for the first shot unless the hammer is manually cocked, SA for all subsequent shots unless the hammer is manually lowered).

C'mon now...you know I am not smart enough to be making that distinction. You are just lucky I spelled DA/SA correctly. :)
