what is the usual return policy for used guns?

A long time back, around 1980 as I recall, I bought a second hand Ruger M77 in 7x57. and a couple boxes of shell. Mounted a scope on it and sweet to the range a couple days later. About half the time the extractor would drop the empty shell before it could come out far enough to be ejected. I took it back and asked to have it repaired and they said OK. When the gun was ready there was a $30 charge for the work. End result is I was stuck paying for the work but I let them know I was not too happy about having to pay for a "broken" gun that they sold. The sad thing is I had a complete Mauser extractor in my parts box and could have used that and fixed it myself. I figure that on the whole I have been very lucky that I haven't been burned more often when messing with used firearms which I usually buy at gun shows.

Used gun buy back

Some customers like to take there new gun apart. It may get screwed up or parts lost. Buy back, less 20% depending on condition. All used guns were test fired and sighted in before going in the rack, behind the counter. If you mommy or wife make you return it, too bad. :D

* * * The average gun shop has a return policy of: If it leaves the store, it's your problem. You had a chance to look at it. Now, deal with it. * * *

This ...

2 of the 3 LGSs in my area have a written policy posted in conspicuous plain view that sez:

"All used gun sales are FINAL. No returns.."

OTOH, if you buy a *new* firearm that turns out to have issues, the same LGSs will be happy to return-ship it to the manufacturer to fix under warranty; however, either you or the manufacture will have to front the UPS or FedEx shipping cost.

Don't be shy !!1

I give a three day non firing return on anything I sell, and I expect the same. I'm well aware that many shops do not have returns on fire arms. It's buyer beware
As mentioned, it really varies and any reputable dealer or store, should have a return policy. Three days for the little guy and thirty for the big guys is reasonable. Another important point on "some" firearms, is the non-firing stipulation. ..... ;)

Many problems can be avoided if you can define this policy, right from the get-go and fellas, don't be shy about asking too many questions. Most shops are not going to volunteer this info. I have seen to many folks just keep their mouths shut, get bitter and bad mouth the shop when it's not really deserved. "Most" dealers are honest and know what it takes to stay in business. ..... :)

Cabelas

I recently bought a used handgun from the local Cabela's- signed a document that said within 10 days, if there was a defect in the gun they would repair it, replace it, or refund my money at their discretion.
had issues with it, took it back about 3 days after purchase and after they weren't able to make it work in the store they offered to send it for repair. I asked if I could have my money back and they agreed. they also said this would be the only time they would do this for me; kind of an "everybody gets one" return deal.
I was pretty happy-
