What is *THE* snubby?

My dad just gave me the gun I have been lusting over since I was 5.

S&W 1917 custom 2 1/2" bbl, stag grips, McGivern front sight, .45
ACP.

He dosen't know who did the custom work on the gun. It was purchased sometime in the early 60s, second hand.

Now if I could just carry lead manstopper bullits I'd be in Heaven.

Cheers,

ts

WHATSA HARLEY?

Taurus makes wheelguns  ? I thought those were from their 'Paperweight' line.

Why is this still continuing? I already gave the correct answer.
Is this thing on?

M38.

ps the 'ultimate' Taurus is the PT22 :D

This is "THE" snubby.

I want one bad but I don't know where to find one or how much they run.

"cool grips...who makes em and do they make them for the j-frame..."

They are indeed Eagle Secret Service grips, checkered version. They are readily available for J-Frame rigs. These (non-checkered version) and Craig Spegal's outstanding boot grips are the only grips I use on my trusty "J's".

Cheers,
Mike

Abbadon, Porting means the barrel has holes drilled in the top of it to vent gases up, thus reducing muzzle flip. it's also known as a compensator.

Radagast

Smith and Wesson Model 60 2.1875" barrel with Winchester 110 grain JHP .357 Magnums or 125 grain .38 Special Plus P's.

Rays Sporting Goods and Hardware in Dallas, TX on Singleton has new in the box 60's era Colt .357 Snubs with the DEEEEEEEP Blue finnish and other Colts NIB. Let me know if you want me to ever look. I am sure they would do an FFL transfer to your FFL for a fee of course.

Opposite snubbies

Like some others, I think the original ultimate snubby was/is the Model 36. (Wife claimed mine as "hers".)

However, if looking into the current breed of "latest and greatest, tactical black, etc." check out S&W 340PD at 11:00 in pix below. Crimson Trace overmoulded grips help tame the recoil of 12-ounce flamethrower.

Unless serious interest in .357 option, next best "carry snub", IMHO is 11-ounce 342 (fitted with bigger aftermarket grips).

Edit: Sorry, attachment did not take. Hopefully still good in third post from top at http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=143390

Have found the S&W 317 snub (at 4:00 in pix) to be a good way to shoot a lot - cheap.
