What is the slide of a Glock made of?

I've heard lots of people go on about how tough the "finish" is on their Glock, but the finish is black oxide, a/k/a bluing. The metal underneath is very tough indeed, but the finish is little different from what is found on most guns.

It's just a high quality steel with a proprietary hardening process Glock refers to as Tenifer. Think of it as a high tech case hardening process. The portion which is effected is an extreemly thin skin, a Google on Glock Tenifer will yeild better results than I am giving here though. The tenifer is under the black coating and is actually in the steel. The black stuff is an added protectant but is mainly cosmetic.
What he said. Tenifer is not a finish or a coating, it's a surface hardening treatment. Not at all unlike case hardening. Different process, same result, only harder.

*sigh*

The question has been asked and answered. Closing this because there's not anywhere useful it can go from here. And indeed, some members are already edged right up against the "no personal attacks" rule, and it would suck for someone to step over that line and get banned when they were just trying to top a previous post.
