What is the cheapest hollow points you are willing to use?

I use the rem umc in my 9, 40 and 45. I know in my springer there more accurate than anything i've snot through it. My M&P 40 will shoot allmost any

Right now I have WWB 147 jhp in my g19. I have a box of Win Ranger 147 sxt waiting to be loaded up. I'll run a few rounds through it tomorrow at the range and then start carrying. The WWB I was getting at Walmart for about $20/50 rds. The Rangers I got off CtD.com for um... $23/50 I think...

What ever Walmart has, but I'm at $00.25 a round of GDHPs 124g +Ps 9mm's ($12.50 a box 50), and $00.30 a round of GDHP 135g +P .38s ($15 a box 50), so I don't need Walmart or anybody's cheap ammo, because I got thousands of rounds of GDHP +Ps in 9mm and .38s which are my two defensive rounds. As far as .357s, I have Remington 125g SJHPs for the most part, with a few high end stuff like Corbon's or Buffalo Bore's, but mainly Reminton's from walMart.

My response is going to be against the norm of what I am reading. I reload my own ammo. I examine the brass, I measure the powder and I test my product.

I use and carry my handloads in all my pistols, rifles and shotguns. Now, if I put all my rounds in some bad guy and he keeps coming - then I am a running. I just don't believe any character not wearing armor is going to stand up to many rounds from one of my .45s, 9mms or shotguns.

I further believe way to much is made out of the Rolls Royce of ammo vs. the Chevy Big Block. LOL

The only question is my liability from killing some AHole with a handload? I can only say if I shoot him then it will be a case where there is not going to be any question as to the perp's intent.

I think I have posted before - I do not encounter or expect to encounter too many human perps. They are mostly critters with a reputation of harmful capability.

I often believe these type of thread starters are simply little dreaming senarios vs. real world or common sense reality.

Check and see what your local LEO uses. I was in a court room sitting yesterday for Jury duty. Every LEO seemed to have a different type of handgun. I am sure each and everyone of them felt comfortable with his own. These gentlemen are far more at risk than I suspect you or I ever will be.

By the way all my Govt. issued ammo in Nam seemed to work well. Just ask Charlie when you see him on the E-Train. This was ammo made to spec by the low bidder. Kind of like my hand loads.

obxned: I'm sure that 90% of the time, the cheapest JHP will work as well as the expensive primium loads. It's that other 10% I worry about.
I agree, sort of. But, I see a lot of shed copper jackets on the range, and I've seen the jackets shed from several JHPS I've reloaded. This does not fill me with confidence.
For reloading .357, I now use Speer Gold Dots. I do not hesitate to carry my own loads for revolvers - in fact, my own loads are all I will carry in a wheel gun
For carry use in a semi-auto I use 147 gr. 9mm Hydra-shoks (cause they still work, and I've got hundreds) and Hornady TAP for .40. I'll dispose/use up both in a few months and switch to the fancy new Critical Defense (who makes that? I can't remember.)
I don't care what my carry ammo costs, I'll pay the price for the best.

Cheapest for range practice. Anything that works in my gun.
Cheapest for SD. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!
Plus I do some practice with whatever ammo I carry for SD, no matter the cost!

It depends upon caliber for me:
-9mm Federal 9BPLE +P+ 115gr JHP
-.40 Fiocchi 165gr JHP
-.45 Fiocchi 230gr JHP

All of the JHP's above can be had for ~$20/50 rounds

+1 and if it doesn't work the first time I'll shoot again until it does.

Ran into a deal a few years ago on Rem 125gr JHP bullets so I bought 7,000. I load these in my .357mags and .38 Spl's. In 2006(IIRC), local Wally World cleared out some ammo and I bought a case of Win white box 230gr jhp's for $9.98 a box and a case of 9mm 147gr jhp Win white box for $5.00 a box. Don't think we'll see those prices again.
