I want top tier. I don't like settling for less. But what determines tiers?

How close it is to true "mil-spec".

I think sometimes folks forget that "mil-spec" is a MINIMUM standard. It is possible for an AR to not be "mil-spec" but indeed be built to an even higher standard.

That said, I mentioned Colt, Spikes, Daniel Defense, PSA, & BCM earlier because they are at least easily identified as being built of mostly mil-spec parts (with the obvious exception of the select-fire trigger). You at least know what you are getting.

If he wants a mil-spec gun, it'll be 4-moa. :)

And it won't be suitable for deer.

I know, it might be suitable for deer, and he doesn't wanna hear it, but that's why I'm pokin' him in the ribs over it.

And a 1-moa @ 1000 yards AR-15 is going to be a HIGHLY specialized rifle shooting HIGHLY specialized loads. It definitely would not be "mil-spec".

Why does everyone assume when I say 1 moa, they think I will be shooting from 1000 yards? Is 1000 yards hidden in the definition of MOA? I will not be shooting any further than 300. When I say moa, I generally am speaking closer range, although apparent I need to be more specific next time.

I AM NOT SHOOTING FROM 1000 YARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right. I think most would say Noveske barrels are better than "mil-spec". Just because they don't fit the exact specs dosen't mean its not good. I was just trying to keep my comments as straightforward as possible.

And by mil-spec, he means: barrel steel, twist rate, chrome lining, HP testing, MP inspection of bolts, etc. Not "fit and finish

Thats exactly what I ment.

Best AR is the one that is accurate, reliable and fits mission and me.

Been looking at the custom builds by to local Gunsmiths in Show Low AZ. The two examples I handled were well balanced, had the smoothest action and best trigger I have ever felt on an AR.

Their shop is called Ghost Town GM and based on the work they have done for me I highly recommend them.

@Leafy - Someone thought you were talking about 1moa at 1k yards when your intention was $1k and it kind of went from there.

Kind of like the whisper game, you know.

One type in particular (since everyone goes crazy of Colt) is the 6920 MP-B. Its looks pretty nice.

What is meant by magpul?

And for those of you who have 6920's, what kinds of groupings can you expect at 100 yards?

Also, do they use 5.56 fine? I don't know if .223 and 5.56 are exactly the same.

.223 and 5.56 are similar but are not the same. Anyone ever tells you that, you need to nod your head and walk away.

You can shoot 5.56 in a .223 chamber but it isn't safe to do so. The pressure produced by the 5.56 loading can cause serious damage to the firearm and user.

Maybe? But I've only owned a Bushmaster and LWRC. Both were purchased new by me and both have 5.56 rollmarks. This Mil-Spec term gets thrown around a lot but have no meaning to me as I am still a AR novice myself.

Thanks for that chart. LMT and BCM seem like the best way to go. There is a lot to be said about a lifetime warranty. Even though I hear nothing but good for the Colts, I hear alot of good still from BCM owners, but BCM gets the advantage due to it's lifetime warranty. DD has great reviews, but doesn't have the lifetime. From what I've read, DD and BCM are basically the same, except BCM has the warranty. The choice then seems to be a no brainer. It would seem foolish to not get the identical rifle with the lifetime warranty.

Np.

If you want the best AR money can buy for around 1000$ flat IMO it's BCM Not that i discredit DD, LMT, Noveske, etc. but i've seen enough from BCM, i've never had a problem, i've got no reason to change. I built my 14.5 mid for around 1000$ with DD omega rails i added. BCM or DD then LMT would be my choices, then probably colt just my preferences. No offense to Noveske but if i'm going to drop 2000+ on a AR system you can bet your ass it's going to be in the realm of a LMT MWS or KAC M110. Not a big fan of Noveske's prices. As stated above there is a reason BCM, DD, LMT, etc. are mentioned over and over again. Because they're outstanding rifle for the price.

Based on experience, LaRue and BCM uppers are outstanding. LaRue uppers are insanely accurate, though, but pricier.

CMMG lowers and LPK's are good stuff as well. Affordable, too, unless you absolutely can't live without a fancy rollmark on your lower.

And oh yeah, you can't beat the warranty for BCM.

I dont think it maters too much.

I bought a BCM upper for 400, the BCG and charging handle for about 170ish, and then built my lower from what I could get for cheap for about 200.

Less than 900$ all together. I see people at my work buying bushmasters and ect for 1200+ and i cry.
