I'm opening a new gun shop (primarily Internet sales) and would love to get your thoughts on a few names. I've been thinking about this for so long that it's hard to tell.

==Gun Gorilla==

Pros: Numerous marketing opportunities, memorable (people won't forget), appeals to younger crowd, fun/catchy

Cons: Lack of seriousness (guns are a touchy subject), might bring bad PR, uses "guns" instead of "firearms" (more professional?)

==T&S Firearms==

Pros: Professional, serious, trustworthy, uses initials (common to name shop after owners), appeals to older crowd, uses "firearms" (less of a negative connotation?)

Cons: Hard to remember/market, not as fun/catchy

The two websites would be gungorilla.com and tsfirearms.com + tandsfirarms.com, respectively.

Which of the two names above to you like/trust more and why? Thanks :)

T&S firearms, does sound more professional. However that doesn't mean that gun gorilla couldn't be your mascot or marketing gimmick. Could even snag both domain names, and just redirect gungorilla.com tsfirearms.

Personally, I like T&S Firearms better. I like the fact that it just sounds more professional.

There are some places that would work for fun and catchy names, but for me, a gun shop isn't one of them... that's just my opinion on the subject.

Either way you go though, congrats on the new business, hope all goes well!

Can't say about an internet operation but the storefronts I visit are about 80% known by the owner's name no matter what the sign says.
"I saw a nice gun down at the Smith's yesterday."

I like the idea of T&S as the name but you could still have a gorilla logo.

store

I'm with the others. T&S Firearms sounds more professional. I was lucky, I named mine on the private drive I live on. Cedar Valley Firearms. Good Luck.

How about "Gorilla's Arsenal"

Sounds like a Latin American resistance movement, but you misspelled Guerilla:D

Personally I think T&S sounds more professional, you could even go so far as to call it "T&S Sporting Goods" if you wanted to go super PC

Sorry, sounds too much like T&A. How about S&T?

Too many people try to start a business using their name or initials. I think customers respond better to a snappy, interesting monniker.

Howbout just T.S. Firearms, and drop the "&"? Food for thought.

Gun Gorilla makes me think of something like "Crazy Eddy's Mattress Barn". So I definitely wouldn't buy guns there.

I like Gun Gorilla. If you run your business like a professional, with good service and decent prices, the customer will be there, regardless of the name.

Since you will mainly do internet business, make sure you provide secure payment options, an actual person to answer the phone, order status updates, etc. I also like to see customer reviews of products and service.

BTW, Bud's Gun Shop doesn't sound like a "serious" business at first, but they are top notch.
pss, there's also a Six-Gun Gorilla out there.

+1. Gun Gorilla just doesn't strike me a great, or even good, name for a gun shop. Using the Gorilla as a mascot or logo is a great idea though.

Shooters and Hooters. Load the staff with half nekid ladies. ;)

Seriously though. I'd find my self more likely to visit a T&S Firearms rather than a Gun Gorilla website.

That's just me though.

I do however find myself browsing on budsgunshop.com damn near daily.

I'd have offered "Trigger-Happiness"! :D
OK, not overly serious, but it is probably catchy to remember

"Loose Cannons" and "Barrels of Fun" were probably never going to be appropriate....

However, given the options, I'd say T&S. It is a safer bet, I think.
Most gun shops I have looked at on tinternet have seemed, not sober, but at least more stern than other goods sites

Well James... It's late... But I like "Barrels O' Fun" a lot...

I don't think it's any less respectable than "CheaperThanDirt" and they're doing fine.

I think "T&S" is too blah as well...
