What Is a "Stinger"?

The "Stinger" (originally named the "Scorpion") that I know of was a pen type pistol firing the .22 Short cartridge. There were a lot of problems, including ones that blew up.

How the heck do you blow up anything with a .22 Short cartridge? You practically have to TRY to screw that up.

Anyway, I mostly hear "Stinger" in the context of the hyper-velocity .22LR rounds made by CCI. If it was used in a movie, I have no idea what it'd refer to.

as far as what the stinger was in the movie, pretty sure it was an over/under derringer if im remembering correctly
