What is a good tactical pistol in 45 Auto?

Who are you and what have you done to the real Ala Dan? :) Well, since he won't say it, I guess somebody has to stand up for Sig Sauer --

Have you considered a Sig P220? :D

What is probably going to happen after the inevitable tribe war is someone will suggest you try out all 3.

Ooga booga! <beats spear on shield> Sig Sauer! Ooga booga! :D Sorry, mental image that I had to share. Try out all of them. Buy what fits you best.

1) 1911 or equivalent (the 1911 by definition is a full size, all steel, 5" government model in .45 ACP) my choice is the Kimber Classic Stainless

2) Combat Commander or equivalent (the Combat Commander is a 1911 with a full size steel frame but a chopped barrel and slide, the original being 4 1/4") my choice is the Kimber Pro Carry SLE or HD (these have 4" barrels)

3) Sig Sauer P220

4) Glock 21

5) H&K USP45

6) S&W 4506

These are my choices (in order of preference) in a full-size .45 meant for hard duty. And yes Captain, I have carried all of these guns all day, day in and day out, as CCW. I currently still have the Kimbers, the Sig, and the Glock and carry one routinely. Although I also have two S&W J frames in .38 Special (638 and 649 Bodyguards) they are usually carried as back ups to a full-size .45 and rarely carried alone as my primary CCW.

"How many of you actually carry a full size gun like you recommend here?"
Right here dude. With the right holster/belt combination and the right clothing, a full-size 1911 packs quite easily. To quote Mas Ayoob, friends don't let friends carry mouseguns. :)

I agree with what fix said. My first choice would be a 1911, Commander model, parkerized finish, low mounted fixed sights, with the triggered properly tuned.

Hey Mike Kilo Niner My Friend,

The real Ala Dan is present and accounted for, Sir!:D But, I
just had to vote for the H&K; cuz the Sig P220 is just too
darn pretty to be referred to as "Tactical".

Best Wishes,

geez....

Are you guys getting old? This is way too tame for this topic. Where's all the frothing "Get a 1911 or get outta my country!" ranting??? :D

Just to spice things up I'll say that you should get a Sigarms Mauser M2 and use the extra 200 bucks to buy a thousand rounds of hardball. Check em out. 400 smackers and a nice concealable shooter packing 8+1.

Duckdawg do you like yours? Does it shoot well? I'm considering one... Uh, I meant...Get a 1911 or get outta my Country!

If you shoot a "tactical" weapon it at the firing range, is it still tactical?

Does a tactial gun need tactical targets?

Tactical bullets?

If a BG gets shot with a non-tactical weapon, is he just as dead?

Hummmmmmmm ...

 :p :D :)

At $600.00 tops it get's a little tight. First I'd get a really top of the line COLT. Not a clone but the real thing.

and with $200.00 of the $300.00 still left I'd get this one.

Finally I'd use the last $100.00 for ammo.
