I am looking for a good tactical pistol in 45 Auto. My price range is up to $600. Any suggestions?

Tactical? Tactical? What exactly is tactical? Does it need a rail for go-fast goodies? Does it have to be black? :D

My momma always said, "Tactical is as Tactical does."

tac·ti·cal Pronunciation Key (tkt-kl)
adj.
Of, relating to, or using tactics.

1.Of, relating to, used in, or involving military or naval operations that are smaller, closer to base, and of less long-term significance than strategic operations.

2.Carried out in support of military or naval operations: tactical bombing.

3.Characterized by adroitness, ingenuity, or skill.

--------------------

Despite what some are going to say, you *can* get a reliable and accurate 1911 for $600.

You can also find a Sig P220 around that price if you look.

Or a Glock 21.

Any of these would be fine for definition 1, 2 or 3.

What is probably going to happen after the inevitable tribe war is someone will suggest you try out all 3. Oh wait, that's what I'm suggesting ;)

"Tactical" is a word that's getting tossed around like never before. But I take it you mean a snag-free carry gun with fixed sights that's thin and light enough to pack concealed for long periods of time, yet capable of decent accuracy.

If this is what you're after I recommend a 1911 style pistol. There's a few models that fall within your price range from Springfield Armory, namely the Mil-Spec. They have a lifetime warranty and have recently started to profile their gripframes on the original blueprints. I plan to aquire one as soon as the old ones are exhausted from the marketplace. :)

Cheers.

That was my point... there are no tactical weapons, only tactical applications.

It has really become one of the most overused terms in the gunners lexicon....

Get a real TACTICAL..One that says so on the slide..The HK TACTICAL..You will have to spend a little more, but it must be the real thing cause that's what they all say it is.. :D ;)

Tactical?

There can be only one...(-Connor MacLeod "Highlander") tHE USP45 Tactical!

Yes, I agree the word "tactical" has become overused but guessing from your post, I'd say you want something with accessory rails, capability of being "point shot" at longer ranges, high visibility sights, crisp trigger but not too light and just plain reliable. Have you considered the Springfield Armory Mil-Spec Operator?

If it were me, I'd go for the H&K but then I'm very biased toward their products.

I wont criticize your terminology, much as it annoys me. :)

I believe you will want to try out at least 5 different pistols. Here are my recommendations. I've tried to stay in your price range as much as possible but you may have to shop the used market for some.

1. Springfield 1911 MilSpec Operator
2. Glock 21
3. SIG P220
4. HK USP
5. Wildcard - Springfield XD in .40 S&W

I wish we could all (TFL users) could be magically beamed to a place we could all meet spontaneously! I wonder how many 1911s, Sig 220's name any other full size gun, there would be in actual attendance. We would probably find alot of J frames and little 32s.

How many of you actually carry a full size gun like you recommend here?

I'm lucky, I work in a gunshop full time and it's almost a prerequisite that you be armed while there. It's no problem for me to wear a full size gun all day long. My concealed carry gun is either a G 23 or a S&W 6906.

Dont recommend a gun that you wouldnt carry on your person all day long. Be honest...break out those chiefs specials and KelTecs! LOL

Captain the question wasn't about a CCW gun it was about a good .45 for under $600.00.

1911, Sig 220 and Glock 21 all fit in my opinion.

I prefer the 1911 and carry one most of the time. Commander sized with a 41/4 barrel.

Kimber, and SA both make something that should fit the bill.

My opinion-

would be for the H&K USP; due to it's polymer frame and
HE finish.
